Powder Keg, Sheikra, Italian Job new trend?

Since when does spraying water have anything to do with the ride? It didn't do much for Anaconda at Dominion.

Not a new trend. You're just looking way too deep into everything.

Powder Keg doesnt even have a splash, it just has fountains at the end that just go off on the brakes.

Isn't that what IJ and SheiKra have as well? They don't actually have a splashdown, since they aren't water coasters.

But anaconda has fountains at the first drop that 'just go off' on passing thru the tunnel, and AFAIK, that was what the other 2 have as well.

IJ:ST and SheiKra both have tracks that go into the water. PowderKeg only has three geysers that pop up when it goes down the magnetic brake section.

I agree with Zambezi Zinger that this is the year of the Tornado Slide.

Actually, 2005 is the year of the Rooster.

I only know that because the last time we ordered chinese they gave us a calendar.

Hulk has the little water squirt feature too - doesn't help it either.

Both SFMM's Ninja & Gold Rusher go under water and people barely notice!

I prefer to think of 2005 as Year of the Rocket (not rooster;)), since there are 4 being built, one being the tallest, one being the smallest, and 2 in between.

And swooshy, on IJ:ST and SheiKra, does the track actually go in the water? I was under the impression on both that they would be more like anaconda, and falsely go 'in' the water, with water jets that spray up on each side.

They appear from the drawings to go below water level, but it does not appear that the track actually enters water (especially seeing as how both must go up a hill after that).

That's what I thought as well, Jeff.

Either way, all 3 look cool enough, even without the water elements. I look forward to riding at least 2 next year.

Doesn't Silver Bullet have a section of track now where they spray you with water as you pass? Water effects on coasters for show are O.K. I don't even really notice them much while I'm riding anyway. I'm a bigger fan of mist tunnels.

^Yes, Silver Bullet has a water fountain, but it shoots under your feet and doesn't actually get you wet (thankfully).

I think this is actually the year of the rocket coaster. Kingda Ka, Rita and Kanonen. Three rocket coasters this year, when only three had been built previously.

If it's a trend, I'd say it started with Matterhorn Bobsleds.

Apparently according to http://www.coastersandmore.com (great site) Sheikra will have 'paddles' on the train which skim the water and create the splash. I suspect that the track will not be in the water but the paddles on the side will skim the water (I'm thinking the track will be embedded down in a trench like on Kumba)

I'm wondering if there isn't some water involved in the "sewer pipe" section of ST:IJ also. Jeff Seibert said they "puposely" don't show much of that area in the animation.

Well I thought that too and wondered how it would get back up the hill. Do you think that the track will just get really close to water or perhaps it will have a "dry canal" that the track dips into.
