Six Flags... Florida??

I have been hearing more and more rumors that Six Flags has purchased land in central Florida... I know that it is probably just a rumor, but I can't help feeling a little excited.
So, theoretically speaking...
Do you think that it would be a good idea for Six Flags to enter the Central Florida competion?
What effects could they have?
How could they stand up to Islands of Adventure and Disney?
In my opinion, they could put up some good competion to IOA, but not too much to disney. They would not distract the people who go to Orlando for the theming and the non thrill rides, but to the large crowd who flock to IOA because it is one of the only places in Orlando with real thrills these days.
Of course, I would love it for Six Flags to venture into Florida... Although, I keep hearing that Six Flags has said that they will not start up new parks. But hey, rules were meant to be broken.

I don't think they're going to try to compete with Disney/Universal parks, why would they, when they have such a tremendous market elsewhere? When the Cecil Field airbase shut down near Jacksonville (NE Florida) there was talk of Six Flags purchasing the land there, but the city decided it wasn't a good idea. Too bad! ;)

There's a huge amount of people who travel to Central Florida, and if six flags is able to win over a chunk of those people, it would be worth it for them... Basically, the same reason that Universal, Sea World, Busch(maybe), etc., all moved into central Florida.

Folks usually have a limited amount of time and money when traveling to a place like central Fla. A brand new park would represent an immense chunk of capital. There are other markets a little more ripe for the picking. Personally, I think they should build a new park in San Diego! Then again, they probably don't want to compete with themselves.

I agree that they should develop in other markets. For example, the Northwest doesn't have any real parks. I know of some in Idaho, but Oregon and Washington have almost nothing. Didn't Six Flags buy the Enchanted Forest outside of Seattle? I've driven by but never stopped because all you can see is a typical corckscrew coaster, and that is one type of coaster I don't need to ride at any cost.

Some people believe in preserving our country's history, just like some people (including me) believe in preserving their parks history. I know it is hard to believe, but amusement park chains do not rule the world.

I'm not a VA resident, but I'd rather they preserve a battlefield than sell the land to a Disney park. I guess I'm one of the people cernelli mentioned that cares about preserving the nation's history, but I won't go into details here. Suffice to say that there has to be a better place to build an amusement park than on a battlefield. I doubt many on this site will agree with me, but we're a pretty small part of the population (in instances like this, that can be a good thing).

Nothing is wrong with a corkscrew. But what I meant was that I have ridden a corkscrew coaster many, many times. I've only been by that park twice and was in a hurry, hence I was not going to exit, find out whether I need a park ticket or just a ride ticket and then end up getting stuck in rush hour traffic. Corkscrews just aren't worth much trouble to me. Now if it's in a bigger park, I'll ride it several times because of no line. Get what I'm saying?

A Six Flags park in Central Florida would work.
My daughter is going on 10 in May, and we have NO plans on visiting any Disney parks. Yeah, they draw the most visitors, but once your kid is 9-10, then they've outgrown it. Sure, the "magic" is fun to see, and I've stayed in their hotels and had a blast, but now we're moving on.
5 years ago, we didn't have Hyper/Giga coasters, so Disney was unchallenged.
Would you rather ride S:ROS, or AeroSmiths RRC?
Six Flags could take over the Thrill Ride niche and draw visitors that way.

I had saw this topic long ago, and I'm sorry to bring up such an old topic, but a thought has come to my mind. SF's purchase of SWO indicated that they were willing to venture outside of their normal park format. I was wondering if Cypress Gardens might be prime to add some thrill rides. I know the ski shows and the gardens are the prime attractions, but how much land is there? They are an already existing park and surely some thrill rides wouldn't hurt their bottom line. Further, if it was done right, it would be great to have a beautifully landscaped park with water around and some nicely themed rides. Would SF live up to such high standards, I don't know?
It's not at all out of character for SF to buy an EXISTING park. Silver Springs has Wild Waters waterpark already in Ocala, and Wild Advetures park in Valdosta (So. GA) is open year round three hours' drive north of Orlando. Also, to Incidentalist, SF did buy Enchanted Gardens (possibly Viper/Tidal Wave's new home?)
