Raging Wolf Bobs

I heard last year that Raging Wolf Bobs had some of it's Retracking done. I was wondering, now that Cedar Fair owns the park, will they finish the retracking or leave it as it is?

In the Martin-Vleminckx thread, it says that they will be *cleaning up* the Kabobs this year....

When I stopped by last week, the first hill still needed new track. I am curious to see if the ride will open with the park.

I'd like to be the first to point out that even retracked it is a horrible ride.

I'd like to point out that's your opinion, not fact.

RWB will not open with the park...there is still retracking work to be done.

Why does everyone hate the Wolf-Bobs? I like the layout... and the ride as a whole...

Wasn't Raging Wolf Bobs layout based upon an older design of a classic wooden coaster from the 50's or around that era?

Yeah, the Riverview Bobs in Chicago. It was a Prior and Church design and is always regarded as one of the greatest "lost" coasters. While I respect your opinion, I think it is the general consensus that RWB doesn't come close to touching the original.

RWB falls under the catagory as "Potential Greatness", it has so much potential with layout and everything, but something was lost in translation and it kinda sucked it up. I rode it last season, and the first half was extremely violent (fixed now obviously) and the last half was just plain boring. I have a bitter love for this coaster I wish it was better but it just isn't.

That something was Curtis Summers.

He took the layout of the original ride, did the usual "slightly bigger, slightly longer, slightly faster" thing that was so popular back in the late '80s and thought that those changes would make up for the fact that he removed most of the original's thrilling parts by taming them.

Potential Greatness? I'm not sure. I think the ride would require so many changes that the park would have to tear the ride down and start over if they wanted greatness. But I see what you're getting at.

Yeah but it's not a *horrible* ride. With the retracking and change of train it is quite a smooth and enjoyable ride. Nothing intense but neither is orange juice and I enjoy that.

I don't know I thought the second half of the ride was extremely boring when it was as smooth as glass. If you like laterals a lot then the ride is for you. People that enjoy speed and airtime. . . well I guess I'm going to have to direct you to the Villain because it's getting some work too, possibly the trick track.

You have a weird definition of boring. I reserve that word for things like doing taxes, going to work and the Horse Creek thread.

When we rode in '02, RWB was unbearable. It made Hercules look like the Phoenix. Well, not THAT good, but you get the idea...

I'm sure its not a terrible ride by nature, but it seems to need constant upkeep in order to keep it ridable. Not boring, though... I don't find any coasters BORING. The Horse Creek thread and threads about the CP webcams are boring!

The first drop was a real back breaker last August. I don't mind some roughness either...I'm just not into having my spinal vertebrae rearranged. Otherwise, it was an ok ride, but it doesn't hold a candle to the Big Dipper in my opinion. Here's hoping the M&V clean up job rocks.

Can't be worse that Skyliner's first dropin 2002: three brutal potholes on the way down...bang! bang! bang!

The three of us [myself, Flare, and Jimvid] then foolishly challenged each other to see who could ride back there the most...solo. I won, with 7 circuits ;)

I rode it last year. I thought the first half was smooth and lacking any thrills, it just seemed to put around the course. The second half was just rough like Hercules rough. The only thrill was getting off knowing there are two better wood coasters in the park to pick from.

Sorry, boring is a bad word, you're right. No coaster is 'boring'. I guess I should have said tamed or castrated for that ride. The retracking really takes away the punch of that ride, but does make certain parts of it bearable.

That ride would not have needed half the retracking it's had if they used articulated trains to begin with!

Raging Wolf Bobs will not open with the park on May 1st.
