Hello! I saw the announcement too. I dont know whether to be happy or sad. I was all for themeing the old mill but garfield? Mabye a old west theme would of been better. Hopefully it will have some cool special effects! Will it still be a boat ride?( dumb question I guess, lol!). I will miss those skeletons! Boo Hoo! Peace, Danny O.

I believe that the boats will be the same, just painted.
I'm all for the change though.
Is it still going to be in 3D?

Yeah, it'll be 3D. Before anyone complains, the ride itself is staying exactly the same! The Old Mill scenes have needed to be refurbished for awhile, and that's all that's being done. There'll be nothing different about the ride itself or the controls.

The 102 year old ride is going nowhere, it's just being rethemed (like we always do about every 10 years.)

I used to think it was a pretty bad idea until I rode the Old Mill at Rye, which Sally re-did....it was awesome! Still felt like an old mill too.

kpjb, of course the controls wouldn't change...weren't those just changed a couple of years ago? :)

Who seems to remember the old air handles went away recently...

Well, y'know I'd prefer the big old sticks.

The air controls were replaced with newer ones when the ops panel was moved to the other side of the trough last year to keep it away from menacing guests. Same controls, just different knobs. It's still pneumatic.

Good timing to make this for the season after the new movie is being released. Coincidence? ;)

The disadvantage to the big old sticks is that to operate them, one has to run up and down the platform. With the air levers, the controls are all in one place. :)

I still think the old brake levers should have been used as the control inputs on the Jack Rabbit, though.

This makes me mad as hell! What are they thinking? I just don't understand.

I guess I'm still holding a grudge for that stupid cat ignoring me when I just wanted to say "Hi".

Perhaps I will get used to the idea of changeing the theme of a classic attraction into crap.

Did they finish theming The Volcano? And will they actually get this one done before opening day?

Oh yeah, I'm disappointed too...

Though initially I was pretty skeptical, I have to say that its not that bad, as long as they just change the existing show scenes. That way the general feel of the Old Mill will be kept alive, while the ride is made more interesting for some people.

Even so, I don't see why they couldn't have just changed something like Gold Rusher which is pretty awful and could benefit from some change...

I agree. The Gold Rusher should have gotten the overhaul. I don't think it's awful, but I always thought that there was a certain charm in the Old Mill. GR, on the other hand, was a more straightforward attempt to scare the riders and in the early '80's, when it was new, it worked. But it hasn't aged so gracefully and should be updated to keep in line with the original intent of the ride-scare you. Why is KW killing all the good dark rides?

So, I'm going to ride a boat into an old looking mill, and inside I'm going to see an orange cat? Why doesn't this seem to fit together? Why would Garfield be in an old mill?

Oh, you guys are talking about the *cartoon*. I thought they were gonna theme it to the ex-president! Silly me. ;)

Gold Rusher is *extremely* low capacity and has no queue. Would it really be smart to try to turn that into a new-for-2004 attraction?
