Kennywood's 2004 Attraction Announced!

Sure it might be cool to add some light guns (ala Sally Dark Rides) to Gold Rusher but that is about it. I certainly would have to agree that there is no queue for the ride and the capacity would not be good enough for "New for (insert whatever year you want to here)". That is just my opinion for whatever that is worth.

I'm happy the Old Mill is staying open. As for the retheme, I'll keep an open mind and judge it after I ride it. I realize that's a foreign concept for some people ;)

So, I'm going to ride a boat into an old looking mill, and inside I'm going to see an orange cat? Why doesn't this seem to fit together? Why would Garfield be in an old mill?

Probably for the same reason that there was a sherriff, a jail, and a blacksmith in there for the past decade or so... to entertain people. :)

Did they finish theming The Volcano? And will they actually get this one done before opening day?

I believe they finished all the theming to the Volcano back in May. The fog inside the Volcano was working for Phantom Fright Nights.

I have to admit that the Volcano in my opinion is the best themed ride in the park:)

As far as "Garfield's Nightmare" being ready for opening day, I really have no idea, but I would except it to be ready, since there just re-theming the ride. Not alot of construction.

Why ruin the old mill. We all got our first kiss from our gf on that ride growing up. I thought it was a Historic Landmark and could not be touched. Why oh why can we not get some new coaster. I hope some group starts the save the old mill site and screws it all up just like people did with saving the steel phantom. I wonder what they would have built had those idots not saved the phantom.

Living through many years of no new coaster Kennywood the place on earth to get a new coaster.

The Old Mill itself isn't being touched, with the exception of normal off-season maintenance. It's the theming around it that is being changed, but seeing as that Kennywood has changed the theme of the Old Mill numerous times I don't see why people are getting upset now.

Ride it first. If then you don't like it, complain. If it's half as good as the Sally make-over of Rye's Old Mill it will be fantastic!

When I went to KW this past summer, The Volcano didn't have lights on it (in the supports). Am I correct in guessing that they aren't going to add any?

I also thought I read some things regarding the completeness of the retheming job saying, well, it's not done yet. I could be wrong.

I think Pirate is better themed than Volcano.

You're kidding, right? You honestly believe that Kennywood changed plans in action, and decided to "just revamp" the Steel Phantom, just because of a website? I've got some oil I'd love to sell you, just pressed from the snake this morning...

They put on the sweep lights near the end of Augest. Red and orange lights were put on.

I still don't understand how people relate scenes that are barely a decade old to some sort of "historical attraction."

There is nothing historical about the Old Mill scenes. The ride has been there over 100 years, and has been rethemed about 10 times. That's one of the reasons that it's been around 100 years. We keep it new.

Here's betting that Garfield is gone within two years of 2013.

Yeah... we're the idiots...

The new lights for the arms didn't quite fit and had to be retrofitted. With all the normal summer work, the job just didn't get top priority once the park opened. They were installed and lit some time in August. (And look quite good, like the old Wonder Wheel, if I must say so myself!)

Is there any truth to the rumor that a gift shop is being added onto the ride as well?

Idlewild Moments

Still am kind of mixed on this one. I think I am backing down a bit from the whole changing the look a little. I think that even though the scenes were changed it still had an old feel to it that will be lost with Garfield. The thing is that I honestly don't think that Garfield will have much staying power at all because it isn't that popular.
Garfield isn't that popular, eh? I guess you'd be surprised to hear that Garfield is the most popular comic strip in the world, appearing in 2,750 newspapers worldwide and read by over 263 million people. If that isn't "popular", then I don't know what is.

From what I heard, guests will exit the ride and go right into a gift shop. And stairs will be involved in the queue.

Is it just me, or is Kennywood's page really crappy? I mean, a 4 year old can do better!

Gimme speed, height, airtime and plenty of LAUNCH!!!

Well in my one visit to Kennywood in 2000 I considered it a right of passage to ride Old Mill at least once. I got a kick out of the old skeleton sceens.

How Garfield will work out is yet to be seen, I am one that doesn't like the world of Comercialism in traditional amusement parks.

Chuck, just glad they are keeping it up and running and wishes the park well.

P.S. If they serve Lasagna, Then I am so there!
