Stratosphere's New Ride: X Scream

Just thought I'd let ya know that they started airlifting the pieces of the new X Scream ride at the Stratosphere this morning...

I was on my way to school when I saw this wierd helicopter near my house. It didnt have a "bottom". When i finally got on the freeway, I noticed it was headed toward the tower. Coincidentally at the same time the traffic report was on the radio. They were telling people to stay away from the tower since they had the roads closed while they lifted the pieces to the top of the tower.

Vegas' new ride is getting closer to completion!

I still think a Wave Swinger on top would have been better (although I don't know if I'd have the cojones to ride it). ;)

When is this supposed to be done?

Maybe when I'm there this time next month? (crosses fingers)

I'm not afraid of heights but I just can't bring myself to ride X-Scream. I'll have to settle for my ride on Joe Cool's Great Skate ;)

Yah, I'd rather ride it than watch TV...I'll just need to stop by the drug store for a bag of Depends on my way there. :)

X-Scream?? What a totally lame name! They combined the two corniest monikers at Magic Mountain to create an even cornier name.

Its been a while since I've really been scared by a ride... this one looks as though it could do the trick. Although I do agree that a Wave Swinger would have been an even better idea!

It's a perfectly average and original name. It's actually pretty clever, if you ask me.

So what exactly will this thing do? Just go over the edge, and all the way down to the ground into a giant hook? That sounds crazy. I've been on top of the Startosphere, and it's hard to even see the ground. I guess this will be the tallest coaster on earth then? It probably will be for a while.. if not forever.

I just had an idea - I think it would be awesome if they made a HUGE skycoaster off of that thing. Now that would be freaken scary. Unless you fall all they way out... come back.. and then SMACK right into the tower...

It's not a roller coaster. It's a Sky Skater Extreme.

Ooohh.. that doesn't look scary at all! It just shoots you out about 30 feet over the edge and then you roll back? Though it looks fun, it's not that big of a deal. I thought it was this giant coaster that went down a vertical track on the tower!

Wave swinger please...

How about a set of Flying Scooters or a Skycoaster?

Brandon,

I believe the helicopter you mentioned is called a 'sky crane'. They are pretty cool to see flying through the air IMO. The first time I saw one was when I was 12 years old. I honestly thought it was a UFO at first glance.

It's good to know the ride is starting to take shape. When I was up there in August, there wasn't a sign of the ride anywhere, but most of the ride operators were talking about it.

I can't wait for it. I love to be scared (as Mike said, it happens rare for me also). It looks like I won't be able to check it out until February though.

I wonder if they can fit another coaster on top of that thing. Think of riding an inverted launch from up there. That would be an insane ride although x scream does seem terrifying as well. Does anyone know about how much it costs to ride the x?
