Stratosphere's New Ride: X Scream

$6-8 I've heard but you can buy an all day ride wristband for under $25 which includes the elevator to the top of the tower.
Holy crap! A Sky Coaster would be unbelievable! Even that might be too much for me...

Regarding the opening date: A (print) newsletter I subscribe to (The Las Vegas Advisor) mentioned that the X-Scream should be open somewhere in the end of October - middle of November timeframe.

X-Scream?? What a totally lame name! They combined the two corniest monikers at Magic Mountain to create an even cornier name.

It's a perfectly average and original name. It's actually pretty clever, if you ask me.

Actually they had a name the ride contest. They had people submit names and that's where they got it from.

Anybody have a link with renderings and a detailed description of how it works?

Ooohh.. that doesn't look scary at all! It just shoots you out about 30 feet over the edge and then you roll back? Though it looks fun, it's not that big of a deal. I thought it was this giant coaster that went down a vertical track on the tower!

Not scary at all??? You'll crap your pants thinking that you're gonna fall off the edge!

I'm hardcore rider & extreme sporter & this is scaring the hell outta me! I'll ride it of course, after a few beers first. ;)

I fly RC model helicopters & someone in Germany scratch built an awesome 7ft rotor dia model of the Skycrane used to build this ride & more. http://home.t-online.de/home/gerd.waldhausen/980210.jpg

I agree with Taipan, although the stats of the actual ride itself are not that impressive, it's the location and what it does that will make this a totally frightening psychological thrill ride!

I seriously hope it has back up brakes for the back up brakes! We all know mechanical failures can and have happened, but on this ride, you seriously don't want any brake failure. It's a looooong waaaay down, but what a drop that would be!

The thrill is not in what is happening during the ride, but what COULD happen during the ride (even though its highly unlikely).

do you think that they will have a blocker, such as hydraulic pads of somesort, at the end in case the worst happens?

scared crapless, but definitely ride it.

What is a wave swinger by the way? I think it would be cool to have those carnival swings around the top of the tower. very sturdily enforced, but load on the top, they slowly ascend down, then spin for a while.

I might pass on that one though

A Wave Swinger is the "swings" ride you mention being at carnivals.

This is one ride where the fear lies solely with the rider.

I'm sure that the ride has safeguards built into the design to prevent anything from happening. Its all in the mind!

They have started testing! I havent seen it actually in motion, but during certain times of the day you can see that it has moved up or down.

You know, I never thought you'd be able to see this ride from so far away, as its no at the very top and isnt all that big, but boy was I wrong. It makes the tower look like a fort or something with X-Scream looking like a gun poised to attack California or something...At night time it really stands out since it has a bright lime green lighting package on it and a red/blue/green portion that cycles with the other lights on the pod itself...

They are still saying opening next week...we'll see!

Whatever happened to the big "Fish Hook" shaped coaster-like ride that they had planned? I guess I missed something, but they used to have the model for it inside a display on the casino floor there. Did the City Council shoot down that idea or something?
yup, got shot down twice.

Of all the cities in the world to shoot down an idea like that......
