Mantis at Cedar Point

Hi, I have question about the Mantis at Cedar Point. Why does it hurt your head? I think I have brain damage from the ride. All of my family rode it and we all thought it hurt. Your head hits the sides of the thing that comes over you to hold you in. Anyone else think it hurts?

I agree. I find it very painful. I usually spend most of the ride trying to make myself as stiff as I can in order to keep from hitting my head.

It's still a pretty great ride though.

I also agree. But if you kind of stick your head out of the headrests when your riding it doesnt hurt half as bad. And also remove your earings if you have any. I still love the mantis though.

Used to be my favorite ride anywhere, not anymore thought, due to the banging. I think there's just been a neglect of the wheel structure in recent years - that seems to be what is usually brought up as the reason for roughness such as on Mantis.

It is one of the rougher B&M's out there. Of course, I have only one lap on it, had to wait almost 2 hours for it, then was denied a front row ride. But I'm not bitter.

I dunno, I guess the B&M standers don't age too well, PGA's Vortex suffers from the same thing.

Bah, I don't think it's rough at all. I don't care much for the restraints but I like the ride and the layout. Has one of the best finishes of a B&M anywhere.

The problem is that standups put your head way outside the track's center of roll rotation, and quick direction changes throw your head around.

I agree with Jeff for the most part. When I ride it the first half of the ride features no headbanging whatsoever. But after the inclined loop I always get a couple of jolts. So what changed between the two halves of the ride? Not the trains or the wheels. It's the quicker transitions that are found only in the last stages of the ride that whip you around. And applying what Jeff said, you get the headbaning. But I do agree that because of that I tend to give it only one or two laps a visit (the line also has something to do with that).

I agree. Iron Wolf is absolutely terrible. I hit my head so hard against the side that I got tunnel vision for a second. It was scary.

Of course, I've been on it again since then. I never learn.

Does anyone else have a problem with it hurting your legs? I won't ride it because if gives me cramps in my lower legs. It feels like I have charley horses in both legs for the entire ride. The head banging is nothing compared to what I experience with my legs.

Quickest way to fix Mantis is to put either a floorless car or even a normal car on the track, then this coaster would rock.

Why would you still have an OTSR on a floorless or sit-down type of B&M car?

It is less likely that you will have head banging on a floorless or sitdown because you are closer to the source of the movement that causes the head banging (the track). Also dont forget that the only BM coasters that have had headbanging problems have been sitdowns, considence I bet not. Watch if you put a normal BM car on Mantis there would not be headbanging.

If you stand the way I do, which I think I first saw on GTTP, where you put your feet as far back as possible and lean into the restraint it helps alot. It keeps most of your head out from the restraint so you can't bang it. Also if you anticipate the movements ahead of you, you can have a very enjoyable ride.
