I couldnt agree with you more. I like to have a choice of going to a mega-park for the thrills and draining of the wallet(well, i dont like that part) or heading out to a privately owned down to earth park with my daughter and spending very little money and enjoying alot of great flatrides along with a couple small coasters.
The big parks dont always put the small parks out of business due to competition because it is 2 different atmospheres. Perfect example is out here in the Chicago area where you have the big boy(SFGAm) and you also have 2 privately owned amusement parks (Kiddieland and Santas Village). These 2 smaller parks due just fine with attendance and have been around longer then SFGAm. This gives the park goer a variety.
