2002 dark year for the rainbow ride

It appears that 2002 was the end of the rainbow type ride at many parks, La Ronde, Holiday World, Hershey, Knotts and Knoebels to name a few.

Yeah & 2002/2003 seems to mark the end for the enterprise as well.

It's too bad, Hersheys and HW's were my favorites. Im surpised SFWOA still has theirs, and Im more surprised they re-themed it into a 1950's car ride.

Anyone suspect that mentally challenged guest getting ejected from a Rainbow has anything to do with many park's decisions?

FP, ordinarily I might agree, and it probably IS a contributing factor to some degree, but I *think* the majority of the "de-installs" have more to do with age and rising maintenance costs/downtime...

The Conestoga at Hershey is a Rainbow ride, right? (Just making sure, I'm not to literate with flat rides ;) )

Carowinds is the exception to the rule this year, as theirs (falling star, but same thing right?) is getting cleaned up and themed for the new Nick area :)

...Hershey's was more like a 1001 Nauht (SP?) theone Down Wildwood N.J. was also removed last year.

I know KBF's was removed due to structural problems including having the sprockets that rotate the vehicle being worn to nubs.

Indiana Beach still has a very good one.

I think SFWOA's looks great! I love the new theme of it! I've never even been to SFWOA, but I've seen pictures of it. SFSTL still has theirs (hopefully), The Rush Street Flyer, which is themed as a trolley car. These types of rides can really turn your stomach! I hate to see them go! Maybe someone will make an "updated" version of them?

Great Escape is ordering parts to get it fixed. If this fails, then it's out.

RCT2 recreation of SFNE coming this summer!

Actually from what I've heard Knoebels 1001 Naught is just going out to be refurbished and should be back for 2003. I just hope that's right, or I'll be Rainbowless. The parks I visit regularly are Hershey, Knoebels, CP, and Dorney. So if both Hershey and Knoebels lose their Rainbows I'm screwed. And yes, I know Dorney has a Zamperla Joker, but if you've been on it you know how slow and short the cycle is.

Don't forget Trailblazer at Six Flags Great America, one of the best themed Rainbow rides I've seen.

X Factor

Conestoga lived two lives, as a regular Rainbow and then with the western theme. I would estimate the ride was at least 20 years old, since I rode the Rainbow in 1984 on my grade school class trip.

Yeah i must say that it seems that the Rainbow is going to be the next zipper and we will not see them anymore:( I wish parks would either keep the up or consider gettting a new version or something. I think the themeing on these rides are unique and are a great ride that give a thrilling ride that is enjoyable for the whole family.

BFSFA, I wouldn't count on the Enterprise following the Rainbow trend. There are too many parks that still have them. Remember, Sky Escaper at SFA was an imposter of an Enterprise.

Aren't we talking about different things? There's a Rainbow and a Falling Star, then there is a magic carpet.

I.E.:
- Banshee at HW - Falling Star
- Conestoga at HP - Flying Carpet
- SFKK - Rainbow

Never-the-less, SFKK is keeping there's, but they had a heck of a time getting it running last year. Apparently the mechanics or hydraulics (or something or other) easily wear out. It sat in pieces for a month or so at the start of 2002. But the park repaired it and as far as I know is staying put.
