2002 dark year for the rainbow ride

Different manufacturers, different names, same ride. Rainbow is general name for the ride.
Are you sure about that? Doesn't seating and structure variances account for them being different rides?

I'd say it would, Shaggy. While Conestoga and DaVinci's Cradle (BGW) provide basically the same type of sensation (and the seating is the same, as well), they are altogether different rides.

I'll agree that they are different *rides* Shaggy, but I'd guess that the mechanicals underneath are probably QUITE similar, which would possibly account for their similar "longevity"....where's Dave when we need him...;)

what is a rainbow ride?

Conestoga at HP was a converted Rainbow. If you looked at the boom arm, it still had the sun. You can find the style still listed under western themeing on the Huss website. Sideshow John, go to Huss rides website, they should have a picture under classic rides. If not, just picture a few rows of seats bleacher style being rotated in a clockwise/counter-clockwise motion in a circle motion, all while being roated by a large arm. This causes strong floating airtime at the top, and strong latererals at the sides of the arc.

Was the 1001 naghts at wildwood Nj a huss ride? i know it was very similar to the conestoga but i have been unalbe to find a manufacturere with that type of themeing anymore. I was just curious I think thats the neatest themeing of all the rainbows.

Thanks for your help

It's not just the names and manufacturers that make these rides different.

They are altogether different rides, providing similar but very different sensations.

The Zierer Flying Carpet is smaller, and is rotated by four arms, one at each corner of the boat. Due to the smaller size, you experience much stronger forward/backward lateral g-forces. This is the ride you'll find at BGW, Marineland, and Kennywood.

The Huss Rainbow is much taller, and is rotated by one large arm connecting in the center of the rear of the boat. The larger size gives a much smoother ride, with less force. It also provides more airtime. This is the ride at Hershey and SFWoA.

Zierer is currently also manufacturing an inverted carpet, where you're hanging below the ride, similar to a Zamperla Hawk. Instead of going upside down like the Hawk, however, you'd stay upright while circling like a traditional carpet ride does.

"Yeah i must say that it seems that the Rainbow is going to be the next zipper and we will not see them anymore."

Not really. The Zipper has never been popular in the park market. The place to see Zippers, just like 20 years ago, is on the midways of American carnivals. It is hard to go to a carnival now-a-days and not see one, I know there was one at each fair I was at in 2002.

Did the ride have the height of a Rainbow but seats that faced towards each other? If so, it was probably a Weber 1001 Nacht.

Don't forget Adventurelands Falling Star. The weird thing about theirs is I remember growing up we would go to Adventureland each year and they heavily advertised where we lived (eastern Iowa). At one point they advertised having a "Rainbow" and then a few years later having a "Falling Star". Does anyone know or remember if they were two different versions or simply rethemed?
I'm so happy that SFEG still has theirs, its one of their only rides with no wait. Other than the ToD you probably get the most air time on the rainbow. It seems like the speed on theirs is faster than at other parks. Does anyone know if that is true?

Rainbow / Flying Carpet has one stanchonon the back connecting the vehicle. Falling Stars have two stanchons, one in the front for steadiness and the one in the back has the drive mechanism. Indiana Beach's Falling Star is a really fantastic ride with tons of air time. They really keep it running in top shape. I believe I read somewhere that Huss is planning on bringing back the Rainbow with modifications.

Miss coastergames.net? Here is a good site.

why do i have a feeling that sideshow john is actually $hane?
Unless the Great Escape plans to move the location of the Rainbow Ride, I think it's gone.

The expanded entrance the park is planning is said to encompase the area that the Rainbow Ride is currently in.

As LONNOL said, it was in all likelihood a Weber 1001 Naught. Weber actually copied the design off of Huss though, that's why it's mistaken for a Huss Rainbow alot.

And Zamperla's Joker is alot like the Rainbow as well, in structure and size. But the one at Dorney is way too slow. Anyone else been on one from Zamperla anywhere else? Is it just Dorney's that stinks? If there is another one it probably doesn't have the Joker theme as I think Dorney's is the only one like that.

I don't remember who asked it, but yes Rush Street Flyer is still at SFStL.

Well, eventhough SFA got rid of their enterprise knock off, they still have a falling star. The Myrtle Beach Pavilion still has their Rainbow(i'd say it will be there for a while, i remember when it was brand new), and an enterprise, both named Rainbow and Enterprise, respectivly.

IS ANYONE OUT THERE GONNA MISS THAT RIDE?
Good news: Amusement Business says Hershey's Rainbow has been purchased by Lake Winnie to open for the 2003 season.
