What's Next For Dorney?

I know its a little early to think about 2002, but what do you people think Dorney will be getting? I heard a rumor a few months ago about them reprofiling Hercules which would be a very good thing! And even if that does or doesnt happen, you know they are getting a flat ride or two. What do you people think? And it just doesnt have to be 2002, it could be 2003, 2004, or 2005!
Retracking of Jercules would be great! She was a great ride when she opened.
I'd like to see a CCI or GCI in the overflow lots near the Lazer although guests would have to cross that small road. A mulit looper would be good in the area near Steel Force too.
Thats some stuff I'd like to see but I think a few flat rides would be more likely.

If you go into the Morning Call archieve are www.mcall.com, you can put Dorney Park in the search box and find all the back articles. When releasing the capital expenditures for the 2001 season, the park also announced their issues regarding zoning boards rules. Since the township of South Whitehall makes it manditory that Dorney releases it information, park officials made mention to the future attractions. The one particular article mentioned that the park would receive several flat rides and a new theater. That same article went on to mention that one of the structures would be over a certain height limit, and that new zoning regulations were in the making, allowing the ride to exist in that spot. There is no confirmed answer to what these rides may be. Also, the planned water park expansion is true. The waterpark is in dire need of some changes. Of the changes which will occur, I know the eateries, enterance, and all building near the front will be torn down, and new and wider pathway will be made, and new stores and restaurants will be built. Also, this is the last season for both the body slides and go carts, they will be torned down and new slides complexes will be erected. I also know about another change which will occur. This is the last season for center stage. A new one will be erected in another part of the park. Anyone who visited in 2000 can clearly see this based upon the new eatery which was made and took up nearly half of its seating. Employees and managers both have confirmed this. That is all I know, take it for what you will. I happen to know this is true.

Also, Dorney Park is not like some of the other Cedarfair properties, in that they have to sit on their bottoms waiting for return on investment. It is becoming well known that the money put into this park is worth it. Despite last years unhealthy weather, the park still manage to fund itself quite well. Parks like Worlds of Fun and Valleyfair! have to wait.
What a terrible way to do business. Don't spend money that you can't make back. What a silly idea.

Not true. CEO Dick Kinzel mentioned in last week's conference call that Dorney had a very poor year, but they were able to make adjustments in spending to keep a positive cash flow.

They made adjustments to spending? How about they increased prices!!! I know for a fact that food prices were increased right before the 4th of July. Every single food item was raised ex. hot dog price was raised from 2.10 to 2.35, large fry from 3.10 to 3.40; I had asked the food manager why, and it was apparently because if the increased shipping costs of food b/c of the gas increase.
However, in reality we all found out later how bad the park was doing this past season. So they adjusted their forms of revenue.

You want to know why Dorney Park has to do all that crap? Is because people think of the park as a silly little park that couldn't thrill your grandmother. Truth is that it is underrated and it is just so bad that such a good park is underrated. Also about attendance, people only come for a day and ride Steel Force, what jerk-offs, you come to a park to ride anything and everything to at least make the park look good!!

Okay, you lost me. Are you calling people who only go to ride Steel Force and then leave a jerk-off? Because you'd be calling me that then. This year, we arrived at Dorney at opening and left at about 1pm. I rode Steel Force about three times, Lazer once and Dominator once. And took some pictures. We really didn't need to stay any longer, as I have been going to DP since 1998 and had done everything there. Steel Force was really the only major attraction I care about, so we stopped off for a couple of hours on our way to Kennywood. Hopefully Talon will be reason enough to stay the whole day this year.

I guess, in your opinion. Not mine, DP doesn't really have much else that I talk about. Steel Force, to me, isn't even all that great to talk about. Maybe it's all the new crop of hypers such as the Intamins and B&M's have spoiled me, but Steel Force just didn't cut it this year. I've ridden it a lot in years past, but this year my three rides were more than enough.
I do wish there were more rides to talk about, and hopefully Talon will be the answer.

I went to Dorney again this year. I was there from 4pm - 10pm. I rode Steel Force once. I rode Lazer once. I rode Hercules once. I rode Thunderhawk once. I rode a couple of spin and pukes once. Do you know what I did for the rest of that time?
That's right, I parked my butt on Talon, one of my very favorite inverteds now. I absolutely couldn't get enough of it. I don't know why, but man, that ride just rubbed me the right way. I probably rode it 20 times (God bless short lines) and still didn't want to leave.
So now, instead of only talking about Steel Force, I'll only go to ride Talon, and talk about that, because that's a ride that deserves all the praise it gets!
It was definitely the biggest surprise of the year for me so far.
