Why are there so little new Arrow Loopers?

Hi,

anyone have an idea why Arrow doesn't build a lot of loopers lately? All around the planet, similar B&Ms are popping up. Arrow seems to have done a lot of development on their ride design (as can be seen in the Tenessee tornado). I wonder why they're not doing so much anymore what they're best at: The classic mega-loopers.

Arrow is not building them because no one has paid them to. Seriously, A new looper is not a draw to a big park anymore, considering that most big parks already have an arrow looper. The big parks are going for something unlike others they have, like Impulses, flying coasters, floorless, etc.

Unforunatly, Arrows success was it's own failure. Parks ordered so many loopers and log flumes that they essentially saturated the market.

I love Arrow, and I find the saturation a bad thing, because Tenn. Tornado is probally my favorite Arrow looper, and since there are so many other Arrow loopers out there, it lessens the chance that more rides like Tornado will be built.

There are so many more choices for sit down loopers out there, Im afraid that Arrow isn't at the top of anyones list. Shame.

The parks who would have been great canidates for an Arrow looper are mostly already set with a looper of some kind.

Parks could support a new arrow looper:
Visionland
Celebration City
Knotts B F
Wild Adventures
Lagoon
Majic Springs
SF America
Kentucky Kingdom
Silverwood
Elitch Gardens
La Ronde (if removed Corkscrew)
Holiday World (if they "really" wanted one)

Thats about it.

Well, some of those parks already have or have had Arrow Loopers. But, there are some good candidates there.

A one that is not cold, is hardly a one at all.

The reason is not very many parks are going for old technology. It seems like the most popular loopers being built right now are the B&M Floorless. We have SF to thank for that. Otherwise the last time Arrow built a Corkscrew type looper was at Dollywood in 1999. It has 3 very unique inversions on it and is a blast to ride on.

All I can really see for awhile for main coaster orders that are steel will most likely be coming from Intamin and B&M.

Not only that, but some Arrow loopers hurt like hell and this reputation is probably enough to repel away the parks that would have even considered an Arrow looper. Hopefully though, now that Arrow is operating under S&S, we will see classic Arrow loopers with much much better and up-to-date technology.

Not only that, but parks do not want to buy from a company that is getting such a bad reputation right now. (Shockwave, Phantom's Revenge) Many people (and parks probably) don't know that Tennessee Tornado is very smooth.

Ultimate coaster, while some did have bad reputations for roughness, Tennesee Tornado is said to be as smooth as glass. They have obviously changed a few things and I don't think an Arrow looper would be such a bad investment these days. I would bet you could get a steal on one of those if you were the first to show interest and it may even have a layout that stands out from other arrow loopers (something that B&M has yet to master). Arrow was good at keeping every coaster remarkably different than the others (prior to the production corkscrews and loopscrews and with the exception of Shockwave and Gasm's similarity to Viper @ SFMM). But look at Vortex @ PKI and Tenessee Tornado @ Dollywood and Viper @ SFDL and Lochness Monster @ BGW and Orient Express @ WOF and you'll find a stand out point found on every one of them that is not found on any other. That is what made Arrow great.

Disclaimer: The above statement is based strongly on my opinion and was not put out as a con to B&M for those "disciples" of B&M. Take the opinion as you choose, do not flame me for it (from my experiences people tend to be sensitive on the topic of Arrow).

I said some Arrow coasters hurt, not all of them. And it was even said, most people dont know about the good Arrow coasters. All some people know is that the Arrows that they have been on hurt and they are the ones that give Arrow the bad rep.

I would love to see another Arrow Looper like Tennesse Tornado, that is the smoothest Arrow I have ever been on, and it has a pretty good layout too.

SFGAMDie Hard: I agree that Arrow did have some nice custom layouts, but the thing I will never for the life of me figure out why it took them over 20 years to engineer a different radius loop and corkscrew! I remember I laughed when I first saw shockwave....the same 40 foot loop that demon had but raised up really high! :)

Parks aren't requesting Arrow rides anymore because this isn't 1989.

I think that new loopers can be marketed, like Colossus at Heide Park. When you add new elements and unique layouts into the mix, it's very marketable. A park could have a new looper built with a 100 degree drop, two new inversions, lapbars, overbanked helixes, ( imagine Goliath with it's helixes banked to 95 degrees ) overbanked turns, airtime hills, and even incredible height and length. Now that Arrow and S&S have teamed up, their capabilites have sky rocketed. I doubt we will see many new Arrow loopers, but I would REALLY like to.

I think CoasterKrazy meant Colossus at Thorpe Park if you mean the Intamin 10-looper. I hope we wont see more Colossus names, three is enough in europe ;)

Phantoms_Revenge_Rules, while I have not ridden Tennesee Tornado, I do think that Lochness monster is very smooth (ignoring the first turn after the first drop.) However, Lochness was built in Arrow's typical age where, as it was mentioned, all the loops and corkscrews and banking was the same. Lochness also has very rough transitions which makes it a wonder to me why it is smooth. But look at Tennesee Tornado and the track flows like a B&M I would think that TT is smoother than LM for that reason alone.
