Nitro crest unlike most B&Ms?

Did you all see the pics of Nitro on thrillride? It appears that the crest of the first hill doesn't have the brief flat section before the initial descent found on other B&Ms. Is this the case or are the pictures deceiving?

I noticed that! I couldn't believe it...almost every B&M has a pre-drop, but it seems Nitro doesn't. I happen to like them, gets you ready for the ride...anyone know why they didn't make one?

I kind of like the hanging effect that you get in the front rows when there is not a hump.

I was wondering what kind of response this no-dip B&M would get...When I first heard about it, I was very skeptical. I mean, they've been doing the dip thing for SO long, why not do it on this one? The only thing I can think of is they only have a certain amount of space to fit this thing in, so they had to eliminate the dip. Also, the drop will be the steepest drop on a non-vertical drop B&M at 66º. This again tells me that they were pressed for space. There's only one part of Nitro that I can't figure out...it's after the straight hill after the hammerhead turn but before the upward helix leading into the block brakes. It could possibly be like BKF's turn after the loop, but I'm not sure. It definitely looks wicked though! Thurs can't come soon enough, I really want to see this turn!

Perhaps they figured out another way to take the stress off of the chain at the top of the lift. I believe that's why they have that dip in the first place, no?

It looks pretty cool with out the pre-drop. I personaly love the little straight aways, it builds the excitment.Its another B&M first! maybe it has a little speed goin over it, like a boost or somethin...who knows... im sure it will be great

What does that have to do with this thread? My personal opinion is that Intamin and B&M are way better than Vekoma, an opinion that is shared by many of us in the States. But, hey, to each his own, you know? ;)

As for the missing dip off the drop, I like it! That drop looks nice and steep. I think that dip slows the whole thing down too much, and am glad they decided to try building a coaster without it.

That is why B&M did that.

They must have found a way to eliminate stress on the chains.

That, or they saw every other designer doing it, and just said what the hell?

Exactly what do you mean by the dip slows the whole thing down too much? By its very nature, the dip will increase the speed at which the train will go over the drop, thus speeding up things, not slowing them down. Please tell me what you meant by your statement. Thanks.

Also notice that the chain is not hanging down on that "rail" beneath the track on the return trip back down the hill; so now it's just like Intamin. Must be part of the new design.

I thought the dip sped things up too. I like the dip.

They just haven't installed the chain yet CoasterCraver. If you see those yellow sections hanging beneath the lift, that is for the rail that the chain will be sliding back down on. This is going to be a unique ride. I will be at the announcement on Thursday and can't wait.

How would this cause "stress" on the chains of B&M rides but not on those of other manufacturers? The only benefit that I can possibly see is that the chain dogs don't rapidly drag over the chain as the train begins to outpace the links. Less wear on the chain dogs I suppose, but what else?

The dip is the reason for the back-seat whiplash on RB's first drop.

I agree with jeff on this one. It shouldn't cause any extra stress on the chain regardless.

Since our webmaster made a good point about the stress factor on the chain (I stand corrected), I have to ask... what is the purpose of this strictly B&M element anyway?
