What is the newest wood coaster in the US which was painted white (or any other color) when it opened? Would Twister II, built in 1995 at SFEG be the newest white wood coaster in the US?
Considering the added substantial cost for the initial structure painting and the upkeep, and an apparent consensus that the unpainted woodies are more attractive in parks (especially those parks surrounded by lots of trees), will we see any more new "white woodies" in the future?
If you are talking about the last built coaster that was painted white, it is either White Cyclone or Twister II, both built in 1995. However, if you are talking about coasters that were recently re-painted, than there are a few. Lakeside Cyclone just got a paint job last year.
I think you are right though, it is cheaper to not paint coasters. But a lot of the newer coaster(e.g. SOB, Twister, Boulder Dash) are located near trees, so it looks alright. But I don't think we have seen the end of white coasters.
Other colors of painted woodies...
Knoebels Pheonix: dark green
Kennywood's Racer: dark red
Clementon's Jack Rabbit: medium brown (track and walk ways are white)
Dorney's Thunderhawk: ivory (or off white... not pure white)
(IF you count the steel supports on some of the CCI woodies, you would also have to include "steel grey"... though I am not sure if this is actually paint or just the natural galvinized steel)

Kind of hard to take a post as objective if a park or coaster name is part of the "user name"

If you count it, Beast has a reddish brown stained tint to it. In the early years it was stained redwood.

Shaggy, Thanks for the information about the SOB wood. Acid wash, Im not sure what it means but maybe somethng to do with moss or mold.
Also, People seem to forget that Beast was originally made of Redwood and not just stained that way. Paramount stained Beast in 93 and my best guess is it is due again soon.
Chuck, who would ask you to put that in your fact book and I want a copy :)

Beast Rocks, While it is yet to be seen how long sonnys stain will last, Remember, It was soaked in the stain, Therefore the stain is all the way absorbed and not only on the surface. BTW, when the sun shines on Sonny, It still has a golden color to it.
