Cedar Point - Year Round Resort?

I remember seeing on a television show about Cedar Point that they were in the process of becoming a year-round resort. I realize that this would take a long time to do, but does anyone know how this is going?

In a news article printed a couple months ago, I remember hearing they wanted something like Great Bear Lodge. But other than that, they couldn't have the rides operating or anything so technically, it wouldn't be a year round resort.

I remember when this was announced by the general manager or whoever. I think one thing included a lodege, with an indoor water park kinda thing with soem slides. Also i heard that they would want to build a giant indoor dome thing somewhere, kinda like those rumors with sfwoa with the indoor rainforest and boat ride. I think thats also what cp could do, like put maybe one indoor coaster, and some other cool things. And then take it from there.

It would take some work to make the resorts "year round". They weren't built with that in mind. I think the gambling issue Ohio was considering got the rumors of a year round resort going and with that off the burner right now there does not seem to be a draw to Sandusky in the cold of January.

I wouldn't mind riding a roller coaster in the snow...

I think that riding a coaster in the snow would be great. I ski and snowboard so it would not be much different. Just bundle up really good. Although I am not sure if I can hit coaster speeds on my skis.

It would be fun, but Millennium force would never operate unless they put a huge heated dome over it :)

Magnum and the rest...... I dunno if they would.

It probably would be a different experience though.

Imagine operating a Deja Vu in the snow...hahaha...it would never complete it's circuit.

RubberDucky, It has a hard time when there is no snow. I dont think it would leave the station in the snow. I can here it now...

SteelMonsters, MF actually has heaters for the wheels under the unloading and loading stations for when it is cold out. I went last year for HW's and it was pretty cold and windy that day. When we were sitting in the brake run and the train ahead pulled forward, we could feel this burst of warm air...it was a very nice bonus after the cold ride.

I think riding a coaster in the snow would be kinda hard to maintain. The track would freeze, and would prolly cause problems with brakes, sensors, and stuff. But, the ride would go faster!

Also, snow would collect on the track, so I don't think if a train wheel ran into a pile, would be a good thing.

But, on the bright side, it would be awesome. Millenium Force, on a Frozen Over Track....Speed! :)

Actually, they're just going to put a HUGE dome over the Po!nt, like the AdventureDome, and heat it during the Winter so the rides can run all year....:)

SteelMonsters, I've actually had the privledge of riding Millennium in the snow. It actually seemed to be running better than it did earlier in the year when it was warm out!

Many steel coasters cannot operate in cold weather conditions.

Which ones? I'm curious since the only reason I know of that they haven't run in cold weather is that people are smart enough not to ride.

Millennium Force has in fact run below the freezing mark with heaters under the stations to keep the wheels warm. Don't remember if it was a Halloweekend or a Millennium Mania day.

I think It was a halloweekends shortly after PPP because as mentioned above, Corey was there and I remember that hair ;).

I know for a fact that Seriel Thriller, Mind Eraser and BKF have not operated on days because it was just to cold in Aurora. Double Loop even has issues with the cold. The coaster is cold and cannot make the circuit.

I would imagine that similar issues are the same for any park if the design is right (or wrong depending on how you look at it). I would imagine that Gemini has some issues in the cold weather since its valleying has been of note from time to time.

We can't even run when it's 50 degrees out unless we're sending completely full trains, can you imagine snow?!
