Deja Vu and rain

Everytime when I go to sfgam and it is raining, Deja Vu always closes, even in a drizzle, can Deja Vu operate in rain? If not why?

The clutching mechanism on the mice may get wet and will become unable to grab the train. Granted, a drizzle alone probably wouldn't cause that to happen, but it's all the park's call taking into consideration your personal safety. They know all the ride's operating characteristics, and based upon that determine how soon or late a ride is shut down for rain.

That's kinda wierd, to design a coaster that is not able to run in any kinds of rain.

I do not know if it cannot operate in the rain, but SF does not operate it in the rain. When I went to SFoG a couple of weeks ago there was a slight drizzle and Deja Vu was closed. I asked a ride op if it was going to open, and they said that they do not operate it in "this kind of weather." Like I said it was a short drizzle and every other coaster in the park was operating. Deja Vu did not open the rest of the day, even though the drizzle stopped.

Plenty of parks do not operate coasters in the rain. Some rides do OK in the rain, but others do not. It's not just Vekoma.

CCI's do great in the rain, Indiana Beach will run them in pouring down rain...just until there's lightning :)

I have found that it does close down for the slightest of drizzle, but usually reopens right afterwards. I have heard many reasons for this happening but none of which I know are true. But everything I have heard had something to do with either the cable and the lift mechanism not being able to lift the train because it either slips or misses.

Magic Mountain runs theirs in light drizzle. Anything close to pouring will definetely shut it down. (duh)

Actually Whizzer closes down quite frequently when it rains. I think it has to do with the electrical lift system.

Since this is the only Deja Vu topic happening right now, and I don't think my comment is worthy of a new topic, I'll just post it here...

I rode Deja Vu in the front seat yesterday. Previously, I had ridden it in the back seat, and found the ride not all that exciting. However, in the front seat, it is a seriously kick-4ss coaster !!! I just wish they could load it faster...but the line still moved at a somewhat steady pace. It also ran perfectly all day, as far as I know...and was smooth as glass. It might have taken them a while, but I think Vekoma finally got it right. :) I think it's even gonna bump something out of my top 5 (but only the front seat is *that* good).

Funny you feel that way, Joe. I rode the back for the first time on Monday and was amazed. Yes, the front is great, but you don't get that much time to appreciate the speed. As soon as you notice how fast you're going, it's up into the cobra roll. The back seat, OTOH, is super fast during the whole forward trip. all in all a nice ride, I just wish it'd load faster!

I've ridden several coasters in hard rain and it hurts after a while

Maybe they don't want guests to be lying on their backs being pulled up into the rain on the far spike. Otoh, maybe there is a mechanical reason.

Also, most rides with friction wheels will do poorly in the rain (S:RoS SFNE shuts down in the rain most of the time).

Yeah, but V2's straight track is all housed under shelter where all the vital parts are. Going into the spikes is just momentum of the train.
