All at once the ghosts come back reeling you in now.
I have seen this at PCW. It's only for body slides. The reason is that the metal scratches the fiberglass and then the fiberglass cuts your back - or atleast thats what they told me. The slides have signs at the begining of the queue that clearly state that no metal is allowed on the ride. Luckly, I didn't have any metal on my suit.
The thing I found very irritating while shopping for swimsuits this year, is that many of the suits have the rivets. It's hard enough to find a swimsuit you like, and then they add the rivet problem on top of it.

Back in 1993, I went to Waterworks, and the park made me cut off the rivets on my jean shorts. Actually, I had to take my shorts off (behind a curtain), hand them under the curtain to an employee, he snipped the rivets off and handed them back.
I didn't see what it mattered, considering that a) the rivets were on the hip part of the jeans, and b) I'd already been to the park half a dozen times that year wearing the same shorts.

He let the contents of the bottle do the thinking; can't shake the devil's hand and say you're only kidding.
I for one don't blame them for being strict. At the former Geauga Lake on the wedgie slides, probably 15+ years ago, I saw someone catch something on the way down and watched a stream of red follow them the rest of the way down. Her thigh got cut big time. She freaked out so badly (or lost so much blood) that she passed out.
Safety is no accident.
