PKI, loosing business?

I've been to PKI 2 times this year, and every time, it has been walk-on for everything. My friend who works there says most days are really slow. I know thats a good thing if your thr rider, because there are no waits, but from a financial view, i think PKI is loosin alot of money, at least comepaired to last year. I hope attendance picks up, becaus every time i drive past, the lot is 1/3rd full. That could mean future rides might not be as big as we hope.

I don`t know, but most of the days I`ve been to the park (15 this year) the park has been fairly busy. The last time I went, Saturday morning for Gold Pass ERT on The Beast and TRTR, by noon, Son of Beast`s queue line was almopst completly full with all but two or three turnstiles open. Also, besides the goldpass ERT, I`ve never seen TRTR not have a line this year, minus the first cold day the park was open and the highs were in the low 50`s. Even if PKI`s attendance is down, which I don`t believe it is, that doesn`t mean that big rides won`t be built at PKI. It could mean that more big rides will be built at PKI in the future. Look at SFWoA, they built lots of new rides to attract people. But yet, I was there yesterday (just got back today) and Superman: Ultimate Escape was walk on all day! A ride lsimilair to that at PKI, Flight of Fear, has constant long lines.

I went last saturday and it was as full as i have ever seen it.

I think all parks are not as busy this year compared to pre-9/11.

I chatted with someone who was at CP this past weekend and he said that Magnum was a walk on and MF was only 45 minutes.

Yes, SFWoA has been slow as each time I've been there there hasn't been too many people.

Yea, I've heard the same VERY low stats on CP. My buddy was there yesterday and said every ride was less than 20 minutes and Millennium was only 45 for the front seat. I have a friend in the band at Kennywood and he said that their crowd predictions have been totally off this year. Combine 9/11 with the Whip thing and people aren't coming as much as they usually do - at least during the week, it seems the weekends are busy as ever, but people are choosing to stay at work more (could be a purely economy thing there too ... I know that's why I've only done 3 general admission hours at kennywood and one day at CP so far this year)

Could you explain to me how S:UE and FOF are even remotely similar? The only things they have in common are steel track and LIM's. FOF is a full circuit coaster, S:UE is a shuttle. I do wonder why S:UE never has a line though. It only has one train and it should be pretty popular. SFWoA locals, is the crew fantastic or does nobody go on it?

That's only a good thing for us I'd think. Attendance isn't down enough to really affect parks, IMO. I mean, it's not like CP is empty on a Saturday, it's just not as full as last year. Look at how KW and CP and other parks survived the Great Depression, WWII, and the boring period between 1945 to the early 70's. If parks can survive that, they can survive a small drop in attendance.

I know that S:UE and FoF are not similar, I was just refering to the fact that they both are relativly new rides and both use LIMs and generally would have low capacities, which surprised me that there was no line for this ride as Face Off at PKI almost always has a line even on the empty days at PKI.

Don't worry about Kings Island. They've got plenty of buisness, in fact they pulled more people in last year than Cedar Point and World of Adventures.

Lake Compounce-So Fresh and So Clean Clean

Don't believe everything you see when you're in the park. We went from cold and wet to hot and humid just as the PKI waterpark opened up. Cedar Point has reported that their attendance is up over this same time last season, although in-park spending is down. But parks have been coming up with more ways to spread out the crowd. Every time a park opens another major ride it pulls 1,000 people out of the queues for the other rides.
It's easy to miss some of the cues that tell you that the park is really a whole lot busier than it looks.

I visited PKI last Tuesday and there was about a fifteen minute wait for SOB and Beast. I'm sure business will pick up in July and August. I don't think they are losing money though.

Funny, I went Weds and the park seemed kinda busy. TRTR's line though started at the cave entrance.

Chuck, who waited 3 times three cycles for the flyers, Rode TRTR too and left.

No I dont think they are really losing business, maybe some but not much, I go once or twice a week on weekdays, I normally go Tuesday and Thursdays every week. and it seems to be getting more and more crowded, it we be like everyone expects after 4th of July. I live 10 minutes away from PKI and i can go whenever

They may be low, but PKI is a consistant park. They post very consistant numbers throughout the season unlike most parks who have bulge in the middle and are trim on the ends (lots of guest during summer). I think I saw that PKI was going another week longer this year. That will help with any shortage throughout the summer. Also with a lot of people fearfully protecting there money look for the end of season to be on of the better ones (when hotel rates come back down).

PKI was the only Ohio park to see an increase last year, they've got the world's best kids area, an included water park and a new attraction this year. You can't identify a trend if you've been there twice. Remember that July and August are the money months.

Is it even possible for a park that charges $42 at the gate, $8 to park, $7 to climb a rock wall and $11 for a hamburger meal to lose money??

LOL but really you can get tix for 25 bucks and the season pass was only 89 bucks and you can bring other people for free with it. So far I have used my pass 4 times for myself at PKI, one time for another person, and one ime at Carowinds. That is 6 admisions at 40 bucks a pop or 240 bucks, I think I got a pretty darn good deal.
