I heard that a 415 foot coaster was to be built in some park in Germany. does anyone know anything about this?

This does not belong in the rumors. It is ture it was in the news a while back. I don't know any more information on this.

The proposed tera-coaster for Heide Park has been put off, at least from what it says on this site.

What do you call something like that? Mega-Coaster? I think intamin should have thought about the Giga name. I mean now the 400' ones will sound smaller than the 300'. Just listen, Giga....Mega.....Oh well.

Mega usually goes to tall but below 200 feet, like Viper, Manhattan Express, and Texas Giant.

I think they should have gone with something like Strato or something to represent space /o goin out of the atomosphere, as long as it isn't a Meso or Iono coaster, this isn't the middle sized coaster and is not known for high radiation.

Yes, there was supposed to be built the world's first tera coaster at Heide Park for the 2003 season. But they did only get permisson to a 99m. high coaster, wich means that their plans so far are screwed. Although, th e rumor goes that the original 415ft high design has been sold to an american park, who wants to open this ride for the 2003 season, nobody knows for sure...

It won't be the world's first terra-coaster. If it is built (even if it's 415') it will be the world's second Giga coaster. Just because it's another 100 feet, doesn't mean it uses different technology, therefore a different name. If it's 415' tall, I guarentee it will be based on the same technology as MF, which is gigacoaster. It's nearly identical to Intamin's hypers, but I think train design is slightly different on the lead car. If this thing is built, it will be a giga that just happens to be taller than 400 feet.

I believe "Gigacoaster" is simply the Intamin product name for that particular type of coaster. Therefore, SD2K would not be a gigacoaster.

I thought those names went with height? Cuz in my science book it gave all the listings.

bigboy. Didnt Arrow and Cedar Fair come up with the term "Hyper" for the Magnum?

It seems other parks with different manufacturers for 200ft coasters are using the same term. Raging Bull would come to mind on that.

Personally, I think this whole name game of what a tall coaster should be called is ridiculous.

Well really, they go by scientific terms:

Mega - 100ft +

Hyper - 200ft +

Giga - 300ft +

Terra - 400ft +

Strato - 500ft +

And BTW, Intamin does call their 300 footers giga, next time your at Cedar Point, look at the plaque on the back of the MF trains...

A rose by any other name.....70'-80' tall coasters can provide a ton of thrills too. The marketing dept. will come up with a new name whenever possible, it sells better...if the manufacturer doesn't come up with a "fancy" name, then the park chain will. Intamin, B&M, Vekoma, SF, Paramount, Busch, everybody's gotta sell something...

Back to the topic - I believe the coaster was "delayed" according to the park, but don't be too surprised if they don't scale it back to be just a *bit* taller than SD2K. That way they still break the record, but save a great deal of expense.
