Different Gates on Boomerangs

I have noticed from watching "30 Coasters/24 Hrs." that different Boomerangs have different gates. Flashback @ SFNE has gates that are at least 5 1/2 ft. tall while the Zoomerang only has a chain on each side. Whats the deal??? How could you possibly consider it safe to only have a little chain stopping an 11 year old kid from running in front of the train going 55 MPH? It doesn't seem very safe at all to me.

Well, the chain isn't supposed to stop you, common sense is. I have to agree it's strange given the way the courts operate in America but still think more *should not* be necessary.

Believe it or not some coasters run *without* restraints (1 of which I've been on) which to me is just as potentially hazardous, but the parks trust the patrons to value their own lives which *shouldn't* be a stretch.

Mind Eraser at SFWoA didn't have gates until a few years ago.

Indiana Beach has a coaster with no restraints. Galaxi coaster is the name. I have ridden it and it is a Schwarzkoph. It's rather tame, but it does pull some high positive G's, if I remember correctly. Just across the pathway Tig'rr coaster is very similar to Galaxi, but Tig'rr has restraints. It is more powerful and has a fast helix.

Deja Vu's at SFoG go all the way to the ceiling...I guess they don't want anybody climbing over the gates to jump in the way of a coaster.

SFNEguy, wheather the trains come through at 3 mph or 55mph, it still is dangerous for a person to get in front of a moving train.

Sorry, SFNE Freak. Anyways, I never really did likes gates, I always feel like I am in prison or something. Then when the ride op opens it I feel like I am getting let out. Oh well, safety first.

Those of you who can't believe that coasters can safely operate without gates have apparently never been to Cedar Point, Kennywood, or Knoebel's. Cedar Point is now starting to install gates on their coasters, simply because the State is going to require it...they've demonstrated for decades that gates are not necessary to insure safety.

Whoever it was who related the restraint situation at Indiana Beach, you got it backwards. The Galaxie has lap bars, which is unusual for a Galaxi (most of those only have seat belts) while Tig'rrr...a Schwarzkopf Jet Star...has no active restraints at all.

I don't see how a park can control this safety issue. A park can not control a 8 or 9 year old kid from running into the track because he dropped his bouncey ball. The only thing that is going to stop that kid in time is a gate, unless you have two or three ride opps focused on the line and all times.

It's not a boomerang, but Superman The Escape has freakin metal doors, and you cant even see through them. More rides should get this, so if a little kid looses his/her ball, it won't get on the tracks

not to be cruel, but if a kid runs after a $0.50 rubber ball and gets hits by a coaster, he deserves it. plus, it saves all the rest of us the trouble of dealing with an idiot the rest of our lives.

God, people can be dumb sometimes. You are the idiot, coasterjedi, because a little child doesn't know any better. Surely you have done something when you were a kid that was wrong but you didn't know any better. Just like little first graders that shoot their classmates, they didn't know that it was a friggin hand gun. They didn't know any better.

That's kind of harsh...well, think of it this way, if those gates weren't there some mentally disturbed person could pick up that same kid and throw him into the oncoming coaster. Safety first, you NEVER know who you're going to be dealing with as guests.

coasterjedi, Glenn is right. As young kids we all did stupid stuff for pointless things. When your 7 or 8, some cheap little bouncey ball can bring a intire day of entertainment, no kid deserves to die because of that.
