What still scares you?

This is my first post. My husband, DEK, thought I would enjoy the forums. What I'd like to know is if there is any ride that still scares you.

For me, I am still scared by BTR. Every time, and I've probably been on it 30 times. I was also scared on MF all 9 times I rode, and even chickened twice.

Is there anyone else who will admit to still being scared on a ride? Or is it a girl thing? :-)

Probably Skycoasters, because I still haven't been on one.

I rarely have any outright fear, but I still get funny feelings in my stomach and that tingly feeling in my lower abdomen on certain rides.

I can't STAND Ferris Wheels, Mr. Hyde's Nasty Fall at SFO (something WILL go wrong someday), Mantis at CP (ever since my harness popped up a bit and I shuffle forward quite a bit) S:UE, and Vekoma Boomerangs (too much speed, bye bye!)

But, as Jeff said, I get 'the feeling' the first time I ride something BIG for the first time.

But, this year I only got that once. On MF of course!!

Coasters that scare me the most are BTR at SFGA and Raptor at CP. Both of these make it look like at any second your feet are going to slam into the track it criss-crosses. I've gotten used to most coasters though, and the only other thing that truly scares me are the flat rides that I don't have absolute faith in safety wise. One of the best rides st SFGA "was" the shywhirl which some of you will be familiar with. I was lucky to get one last ride on it this past summer, but I could look above me and see the tiny pin holding us, which was smaller than my pinky finger. Now obviously there are tons of these things on coasters, but they're not usually so obvious.

Hey mongoose- my harness on mantis always pops forward and I love it, that of course may be my downfall one day. :)

I haven't been scared on a ride for sometime other than the Williams Grove Cyclone. I think they call it the Cyclone because it looks like one hit the ride. The seats and lap bars have duct tape all over them, the ride op needs to double and triple check some lap bars because the don't lock right. Not to mention the guy smoking while checking the bars. The lift hill zig zags as it goes up and even dipd up and down making the cars crak as the climb up. I think some it is due to age while the rest is from poor maintainance. At the top of the lift on the first turnaround bits of track are pieced together to make longer sections. For the poor shape of the Cyclone it actually delivers a fairly smooth ride. The best is when they release the brake and the train just sits in the station. The op will somtimes call the op running the carousel nearby to help push. :)

Anyone going to Hersheypark should stop by Williams Grove to be terrified on the Cyclone. The ride ops are pretty scary too.

I still get a bit scared on S&S towers and other "drop zone" kind of rides. Something about having nothing in front of you (no track) then.... ZOOM! Always big air on the Turbo Drops. I prefer the S&S "bounce" to the drop zone breaks.

I must say that I am still scared of Drop Zone at PKI. When I get all the way up there, the anticipation of the drop drives me crazy, and my first couple of times my heart was pounding exceedingly hard...

Skycoasters scare the crap out me. I did it once at Kennywood and will never do it again.

Face/Off still makes me nervous each time. Something about facing forward and being pulled backwards up that height with only the restraint keeping you from falling to the ground makes one uneasy. Of course, that's part of the fun since it's one of the few coasters I can think of that retains that initial nervousness after the first time you ride. Plus, the feeling of going backwards through inverted loops is like nothing I've felt on any other coaster.

Wow! Nothing comes close to the Big Shot in Vegas. My goodness, talk about the definition of fear.

The only two rides that made me slightly nervous were my first rides on Superman: The Escape at SFMM, and Superman: The Ultimate Escape at SFO.

The only rides I now fear are any Skycoasters,
and Dudley Doo Right's Ripsaw Falls at IOA.

Rides like Demon Drop (CP) and Power Tower (Turbo Drop) still scare me to the point that I still haven't been able to go on them! I have been able to do the Space Shot side of the Power Tower though. S:UE scared me too. I am sure if I ever get to PKD and do the new Thrust Air coaster I will definately be scared!!!

I pretty much concur with mostly everyone here. Those *drop* rides gets me rattled everytime. I probably will never get on a skycoaster. Its just all you have supporting you is a wire....Yikes!

Coasters of any size, shape, speed are no prob....

S:UE did rattle my chains a bit, but is NOTHING like the fear or the Big Shot in Vegas.

I rode Power Tower over 10 times this year; if that makes you nervous, the Big Shot is exponentially more so and just make you soil your pants.

That double dip on the Jack Rabbit at kennywood scares the heck out of me.

Let's see, my most recent fear was S:UE, something about being launched vertical didnt sit well with my system, rode it front seat, it was more fun than scary.

Big Shot, I doubt I'd ever try. I would be scared just going to the top of the tower, let alone stepping outside (well if someone insults my manhood enough I'd do it).

Katanga, you can just about chalk up a no for me. I dont really like heights or spinning rides. That type of ride (skyscraper) scares the crap out of me.

(I know this will sound corny but..)Ice Dragon. The castle wall duel got me, not the first time I rode it, but the SECOND, why? I have no ides

What scares me is for some reason, while going up lift hills, I think about the safety mechanisms that keep your restraint locked. Especially everytime I ride Alpengeist. I guess this is because on two different occaisons, I have seen Alpengeist start to leave the station, then the train suddenly stop and the restraints pop open. The operators would start to scramble and yell "RESET". What is up with this? I have seen the exact same thing happen twice on Apollo's Chariot, and the operators would have to walk up the lifthill and look at everyones seats (which did not pop open). But I love these two rides and know they are completely safe. I just think about what I saw as we climb the lift hill, and sometimes when I hit big airtime. But in any case, I will continue to keep riding and will always have fun. :)

OK, 2Hostyl... Quit being such a woman and get on The Big Shot!! ;) Actually, I chickened out on the Big Shot myself, the first time I went up the tower. I told myself that I WOULD ride it the next time I went and every time since the Big Shot and the High Roller have been closed due to high winds. I have been there at least 10 times since the Stratosphere opened. Bummer.

The most terrifying experience I ever had was on Nothing But Net (Safe Catch Air Device). It was worse than a skycoaster because you don't have anything holding you. You just fall 100 feet into a net. I would not be scared to do it again. But the first time was extremely scary because I did not know what to expect. Skycoasters are a piece of cake compared to this.
