Flashback, and Revolution can have lap bars only!

They only require them when the rollercoaster goes upside down (inversion), but those turns on Flashback they dont consider them "inversions", so maybe we will be in luck with some new trains, and with just lap bars! And also I mean we have rides like Robin the Chiller that go upside down 6 time (3 fowards, 3 backwards) and that just has a lap bar, and thats at a six flags park, so I think there's no need for them on Revolution, and plus I've seen people bleed from the mouth, and thats why on the Chiller they got lap bars!

I believe that in Cali. its a law that any coaster that inverts needs to have otsr.  that's just what I heard, so it could be wrong, but it makes sense if you think about it.  why can rides like Batman and Robin or Chiller have lapbars, but Revolution can't?  silly Californians.  with Flashback, I'm not sure if it could have lap bars.  even though law might allow it, Intamin might not make those kind of cars any more.  or if they do it might cost a fortune to replace them not just because they aren't used any more, but because they also would have to be re-designed for the lapbars.

I don't understand the point. Ok so neither rides *actually* needs OTSR,  that's been well established for awhile. Unfortunately we don't run the park, nor pay the insurance to run these rides, so our votes don't count. And with So-Cal suddenly becoming the accident capitol of the world, I guarentee you they won't be coming off any time soon.

Well, Greased lightning and Monte are pretty old, so that might be why they dont have OTSR and the reason why Revolution has them I think is just another reason why the SFMM people are....

Revolution is even older, infact 2 years, so i dont think that is a reason. i wouldnt mind OTSR on revolution, just not the lap bar/OTSR combo.

MF6279, What I was tryin to say is that the reason why I think that Revolution has OTSR, is because the people at SFMM are a little weird if ya know what I mean **Cough**Colossus***Viper**Brakes***Cough

Like DWeaver said, we've pretty much established the point that rides don't need OTSR's and which ones need it most.  There's no reason to have threads where everyone agrees something needs lap bars. It's not gonna change anything.

I would ask anyone who wants to needlessly start this thread again to cite a specific section of California law regarding OTSR's and inversions.
If you can't than please don't start this thread.

It doesn't even have to be part of a law, it can even be something such as the attitudes of the local insurance scene. Things are different everywhere. You move from one state to another, and WHAM! You're paying twice as much to insure your car. But, if your car has crazy safety features, such as dual airbags, or even if you meet certain emissions standards, your cost is lowered some. I think I remember Flashback having OTSRs at its' last two homes, anyways, so.......

It is my understanding that Walter and Claude designed Z-Force, oh sorry, I mean Flashback when they worked for INTAMIN.  So, why don't we go to B&M and have them design the trains.  Nowadays, we could just take their sit-down train, redesign a few things to fit the gauge of the track, etc...an viola!  A more comfy, and less headbanging Z-Force, oops, sorry again, I mean Flashback.

maybe get B&M trains, wih just clam shell lap bars on Flashback, and Revolution, either just a lap bar/lap bar and seat belt, or just a new shoulder harness, with padding like on Spee the Ride

I'm so with you on that one! Also on Taz's Tornado they dont need them, man going upside down 5 times on a continuious with a lap bar, must be the best!

When the Revolution first opened, it only had lapbars. There aren't enough negative G's for shoulder restraints to be necessary.

I read somewhere awhile back that the county SFMM is in (LA County?) has an ordinance requiring any coaster that has inversions to have OTSR's.  So thats why Revolution must have them.  As for Flashback I have know clue.

I don't think any non looping suspended coaster needs ostrs. Standups need something over the shoulder. Bars, thick pads, or seatbelts same with looping suspended/inverted
