Do you think Cedar Point Will slow down Millennium

As you may know Cedar Point has slowed down a few of there roller coasters after the thier opening year. like Mean Streak was slowed down in 1997 because of the ware and tear of the ride's speed. Mantis was slowed down when a Riddler's Revenge beat it out, and the g-force was WAY TO HIGH. I think as soon as Millennium Force is beat, Cedar Point will add a brake to it. *** This post was edited by Michael Beverage on 3/16/00. ***

The only reasons MF will ever be braked are basically the same reasons for braking the other coasters: it's tearing it self apart or the forces generated are way too painful. However, I don't think that'll happen. Look at S:ROS at SFDL. The ride itself is structurally sound (except for the Wobbler) and the forces are just right. The reason they added a trim to that ride is because the desinger didn't leave enough room for final braking. As a result, trains sometime coast too far ahead in the brake run and cause block violations causing a PLC error. By adding an extra set of brakes uptrack of the final run, the trains are slow enough hit the mark every time. MF has a long decelleration run right before the final brakes. That decelleration run are only trims I think you'll ever see on it. Of course, only time will tell.

There are brackets just before the final turn and right after the cross back of the lagoon, built right in to the track. I'm not positive they're for brakes, but I suspect that is what they're for. I'm not suggesting there will be brakes in these positions, but rather the option would be available.

That would be a heck of a brake run to overshoot, though!

Due to the nature of the braking system on MF (and for every other coaster using some sort of fin) the track with the brake has to be straight. Are these brackets on straight track? Just for clarification, are they on the long straight going into the final overbank and between the fourth hill and bunny hop on either side of the turn? If they are, I'd bet dollars to donuts that they're for the possible use of trims in the future.

Have we forgot that MF will be using a first ever magnetic braking system, so yes the will have brakes but not until the middle or the end.

Nope. S:ROS at SFDL uses the same braking system as MF, as will the other S:ROSs at SFA and SFNE.

Yep... straight pieces. Just before the climb in to the final turn and just before the turn for the second tunnel. Because there are no brakes installed on them now, I suspect they are there "just in case," so as not to require modifying the structure later should it become necessary.

Millennium Force was designed to withstand upwards of 5gs and speeds of 100mph. Intamin planned on it, they knew what it can do. With a wooden structure, it is pretty much a hit or miss, ex. Mean Streak.

Millennium Force: The Future's Riding On It

I always wondered what those were for. At least the possible trim location's are at the end of the ride.

It overshoots all the time, and I was on it once when it did. It's not the brakes though, It's because it skipped over the advancing wheels. It just requires a reset which takes a few minutes. Usually it happens in unload becuase the train sometimes just rolls into there, but One day it overshot load and climed the lift for a few feet!

I've read where many people say this. I rode Mantis the opening season and never even noticed. I was very surprised when I learned they added brakes.

Then again, I'm one of those people who doesn't think Mantis is painful for men...

ive ridden riddler and mantis, riddler is bigger, faster, but the g's dont hurt my legs like mantis did, mantis is the only coaster that was actually painful to ride, standing in line for so long and having your legs hurt from walking all day and then go on that ride and put 4x as much pressure on your legs, and this is AFTER the trims were added.

I can't see CP ever changing the ride unless there is unforseen stress on the ride after perhaps 3-5 years. MF was designed with longevity in mind, and obviously speed is built in to a 300 foot tall coaster. I think it'll stay as is. I hope so.......

Superman: ride of steel at SFDL was ruined of its finale last bunnyhop with the addition of the brakes.. seriously. Very few know what it was like, and I am telling you, the last bunny hill used to be INSANE (more-so than the 3rd hill, and the previous bunny hops)... sure.. its still a "good" ending, but the last bunny hop used to be the best part of the ride, but it got ruined in my eyes. Like I said, its still a good ride, don't bash me for that... its still got a good ending, but it was an AMAZING finale before, now its just an "ok" final bunny hop.

Well, seeing as the Force has been known to barely make it over that third hill, I doubt there will be too many problems with excessive speed.

I belive at CoasterMania someone asked about trim brakes in the future... and Cedar Point said they would very much hate to do it and most likely will not happen.

Does this mean they will slow down Steel Dragon 2000 also? I say no for Millennium Force. I would think they may add trim brakes before the last turn going into the station.

I seriously doubt CP will add trims to MF. After CF bought MA, people asked Kinzel if they were going to change Shivering Timmbers. He replied, "we don't put brakes on rides unless we have to".
