Why Mean Streak?

I just returned from Cedar Point, and after riding Mean Streak I have to wonder why so many people here have such a problem with it.
I read posts all the time that Mean Streak is too rough and that it has uncomfortable trains.
When I went on the ride, I did not feel that it was rough at all, and that the trains were pretty much standard issue woodie trains.
Granted it wasn't an excellent ride but it wasn't bad by any means.
So, would anyone like to explain their opinions on this ride??

When I rode, I was perhaps jaded by Cornball. There just wasn't that element of surprise or excitement there. I think the Blue Streak is a lot more fun.

Jan Frederick, I know what you mean as I am spoiled by Ghostrider, which has a lot more interesting layout than Mean Streak.
But the layout is all that I was dissapointed in about Mean Streak.
As for those trims on the first drop...I have to give you that one!

Of course Mean Streak is decent, it is a COASTER after all.  I think that Mean Streak gets a bad rep from the enthusiasts because of all of the great woodies that are out there.

I am not a fan of that layout myself, it is just boring.  I'll take Shivering Timbers or SOB over it, but it still provides a fun ride when at CP.

I think i'd rather ride Mean Streak than SOB.  But MS i'd don't really bother that much to ride it when i go to CP for a couple a day.  I rather ride Blue Streak last seat to get some heavy airtime!

Perhaps it would be best if I started by saying that Mean Streak was my fav woodie after riding it on my first CP trip.  I even used it as my screensaver for almost 2 years.  Riding it again this year, I felt it was a little rough, but that wasn't really the problem.  My issue with MS was ALL those brakes, down the FIRST drop.  I know alot of people are saying "but it was tearing the trackwork apart."  I would respond, but this is a family-oriented site.  All I'll say is that fast coasters with lots of laterals and turns WILL do that to the tracks.  But if anyone can afford to pay people to keep working on the tracks, it's CP.  HW manages to pay Jeff H. to keep Raven and Legend running FULL-BORE, why does MS have to be full-snore?

I liked Mean Streak, but I admit to also being a bit jaded by Ghostrider, and for that matter, Tremors.  I love CCI coasters whole hog, so I tend to see weaknesses in other designers.  It is obvious favoritism on my part, but it is indeed how I feel.  I did love Mean Streak the first time I rode it, and have yet to ride it within the last year and a half.  I don't know how much the weather has changed it, but I imagine with the extreme Ohio winters and CP's lack of care towards it, it could be quite horrendous.  I hope they might step up and save the ride, and cut out the trims altogether.  Make the coaster live up to its name.

Well, I feel that it is a little too rough, but some rough is good. Personally, Trim Brakes ruined what could be a Top 20 coaster.

year 1-2  when mean streak was built it was  one heck of a ride !  Fast...  pretty smooth ( as for a woody ) and there was air time !

year 3  -  still fast.. but gotten noticably rougher. you shook  all the way through the course

the the trim brakes were added   it slowed down the ride quite a bit.

this year  I thought the coaster rode smoother....

still as slow but better than some previous years

I guess I'm a little a jaded I rode this coaster when it was in its prime !  but it has  seen better days. I still ride but its not the same..

MEAN STREAK IS A PRETTY SMOOTH RIDE IF YOU DON'T SIT IN THE BACK SEAT OF ANY CAR.  I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST THE FRONT SEAT THAT IS SMOOTH,  BUT I TESTED OTHER SEATS WHILE I WAS LAST OUT THERE AND THEY WEREN'T HALF BAD.  TEST MY OBSERVATION OUT AND YOU WILL SEE.  I DO AGREE WITH ALL THE BRAKES.  MEAN STREAK USE TO BE A KICK BUTT RIDE  BUT IT SOMETIMES BARELY MAKES IT AROUND THE SECOND AND THIRD HILLS NOW.  CAN WE SAY ROLLBACK!!!!!!

I think noone likes MS because just about every coaster at CP is better. If you get on MS after riding the other coasters, it's really dissapointing. Though, the GP loved it during my trip.

The trim brakes kill the whole ride. I thought we broke down on the trim brakes that's how bad they brake you!

Sure alone Mean Streak is an OK ride... but compared to REAL wooden coasters it falls short... Very short.

I dont think it's necessarily too rough, but just isnt that fun with all the trim work. If the REAL reason for the trims is because it was tearing itself apart, i suggest everyone go ride GhostRider before it sees the same fate. There are NO noticeable trims on that coaster and it maintains top speed most of the track.

Right on people! Keep squawking about the sucky trims and eventually maybe they'll do something with them. After all, those are the biggest problem with this ride.

Mean Streak isn't uncomfortable, it isn't too bumpy, it has basically no airtime though, and I was dissapointed.

What, onyl three times in a row? What's wrong with you, B&M, Mean Streak deserves at least five times in a row ;) It really is a great ride, and my personal favorite at Cedar Point. I don't really mind when people knock it or don't ride it, cause the queue is shorter than for me :)

Are the trims always on? I rode MS in the morning this season and didn't notice any braking.
