Worst trim brake places

The worst place for a trim brake is on a roller coaster. ;)
Seriously, they are often placed just over the crest of the first hill because this minimizes the wear and maintenance on the brake. The result is that the entire run is slowed way down even though the rough spot may be much further along. *** This post was edited by Jim Fisher on 8/9/2001. ***

What about just before the first loop on the old Steel Phantom. My first ride it was like woosh down the hill, slam brakes just as you enter the loop, wack head back on seat and continue on.

I hate where Nitro's trims are. They completly slow down the ride. They are right before the third hill and right before the hammerhead. It's so anoying when your speeding along the course and then it seems like the train slows down about 10mph. They also need to turn down those block brakes, it sure hurts in the back row when you got your hands up and the train almost completly stops.

IOA rules, there is nowhere on Nitro where the train almost stops. I dont like where GASM trims are.

The worst trims that I've encountered are on the wild one at SFA just before you enter the helix.

Definitely Mean streak trims on the main hill...
certainly slowed it down to the point its one of the beginner coasters. I still ride the mammoth woody when I'm there ...if I happen to be in 20 ft of it...If someone begs me..LOL

Another would have to be American Eagle's brake into the final helix.

I don't mind trims, proper placement is key, though. Magnetic trims will be the thing, no doubt. Trims that get me are trims that are smack on a good section of the ride. This train may go over this hill too fast, so we'll slow it down on the hill, not before, we'll just put the brakes in the middle of it. Makes me wonder, why not slow it down before, like on the downside of the hill before it? As for Mantis, I didn't feel those. It's a steel looper, brakes at the beginning? They don't really hamper the ride. Slow through the loops, it wasn't slow, IMO, but I do like slow loops. This is not really a trim brake place, but the worst trim I've gone over would be on Shockwave a SFGAm.

this isnt a trim place either, but viper at magic mountain, the brakes slow you down WAY too much, and i didnt like the trims on mantis or mean streak, mean streak especially. at least on mantis its right at the bottom of the drop and not at the top, so you feel a little of the drop.

I saw this topic and immediately thought of Mean Streak. Apparently I am not alone, as this trim brake is the stupidest trim in existence. The rest of the ride is scattered with even more trims. The ride is OK, but the idea of facing the first drop on a coaster and instead of plummeting down, its stalls will forever taint this ride.

#2 goes to Goliath's mid-trake brake run. Giovanola added an upward helix prior to the brake run on TITAN(see GOLIATH with an extra helix)so that it doesnt have to rely on the brakes to slow it down. It does so more naturally.
In any other park, I would expect this helix to be added to Goliath in the off-season, but MM has no Real off-season. Perhaps they will close it for a few months during winter AFTER X & Deja Vu are operational.

Considering the intensity of Chang, i don't mind the trim on Mantis.

There is a Spot on the Williams Grove Cyclone where the breaks just eats every inch of speed from the train....and it would have been a really intense spot, too.

Every hill on Revolution. This thing actually CRAWLS through it's course now.

While these aren't trim brakes, the block brake on the old FoF used to be horrendous. While it was nice to sit in the building for a second, it slowed down the second half of the ride considerably. Now FoF just flies!

Now the trims don't bother me on Mantis, but they bothered my brother and his girlfriend. They said that the sudden jolt of the brakes hurt them more than when the ride was a little faster. Interesting.....

It looks like BKF has trims on the bottom of the turnaround before the cobra roll. Are these ever used?

BTW, I had a ride on the Magnum without the trims, it was sweet. It really didn't speed up the ride that much, but it made it feel so much better. I guess it’s all in our heads!

Any place on a coaster is a bad place for trims. PR will have trims added next year to the last camelback, which will probably ruin some of the airtime on the last camelback, but that's about it. Fortunately, Kennywood didn't add the trims before all the camelbacks, which woulda been horrible. The best place to put trims is at the end of the ride, but if a coaster is designed correctly, trims shouldn't be needed at all...

Any rollercoaster that operated multiple trains at the same time MUST have a mid-track brake run for EACH additional train. The brake run in the middle of BKF is the emergency stopping point for the train, shoulds the train in front of it have a problem. The brake run may also be used to compensate for minor speed variances caused by weather. These minor adjustments could be so minor that they are not noticed at all. An actual TRIM BRAKE will be a consistant braking point on a coaster that was designed to achieve speeds higher than the layout will actually accommodate. AKA: Track to short, ride to rough, G-force too high, etc.

I haven't ridden it myself, but I've heard that Alpengeist installed a trim during the middle of the ride that all but ruined the ending elements. Can someone clarify and/or dispute this?

I personally enjoy Top Gun at PC because of it's complete lack of any trims (except those before the brake run)
