Both places are good in their own way.
SFNE has a lot of rides. More coasters, more flat rides and more water rides. I don't think it will be any less crowded now that SROS is closed (maybe a little less crowded). The lines for the rides that are still open will be longer since SROS is closed. IMO, I think that a trip to SFNE without SROS is missing something, especially if you've come a long way or you haven't been there in a while.
The Lake is a nice relaxing park. I was there for the first time on Sunday and I liked it. It was a nice change of pace from SF. I thought the food was even pretty good. They don't have many rides in comparison to SFNE. Wildcat, Zoomerang and BD were all open and the only one that had any sort of line was BD. I got 8 rides in on BD. I enjoyed it immensely. I experienced some great airtime on it (mostly floating). I rode the front of the first car, the back of the last car and the front of the second car. I found the front of the first car to have the best airtime.
If it were me, I would save SFNE until SROS is opened again. I am biased though, since I live pretty close and I've been to SFNE many times whereas I've only been to the Lake once.
-------------
68 coasters ridden (so far)of which 23 are wood and 45 are steel.
