Why is Great Adventure so expensive?
I was wondering why Six Flags Great Adventure is so much more expensive than the other Six Flags parks. Let's start out with the facts: A regular admission ticket to the park (and finally this year they expanded the ticket to include the Wild Safari) costs $45.99 plus 6% NJ sales tax - that comes out to almost $49. Then as if that's not expensive enough, you have to pay again if you want to enjoy a few hours in the water park. Let's see, that costs $29.99 not even including tax. Some Six Flags parks include the water park w/ general admission. Thats over $80 per person in a day if you want to check out the two parks. Then, since you have to park your car somewhere...you gotta pay $10. OK, that's understandable, but THEN if you want to go over to the water park, get ready to pay another $10 unless you plan to walk a pretty long hike (it's long...i've done it before). Let's start out comparing with the only Six Flags park bigger than Great Adventure. Guess what? It's cheaper. A regular admission ticket to SF Magic Mountain is $42.99. Parking is only $7. Any guess what, they have a two park combo ticket where you can get into both the water park (which is cheaper to get into than NJ's Hurricane Harbor) for only $52.99. Here's a quick list of some other SF parks:
-SF Over Georgia: $39.05
-SF Great America: $39.99
-SF St. Louis: $38.99
-SF WoA (that's 3 parks in one) $39.99
It's not like its such a big deal to me, I have a season pass for both Great Adventure and Hurricane Harbor, so the costs don't affect me. It just seems outragous. If we are going to be the most expensive park, give us as many coasters as Magic Mountain. Sorry about the long post.

It is pretty expensive and yeah Magic Mountain is bigger and cheaper but Great Adventures is a fun park but i think it is expensive because they have to have money to maintain the safari,hurricane harbor,and the park itself.The money might be going toward some rides or a expansion of the park there was a rumor it might become a resort the money might be going towards that if its true, But hey what can we do, the prices are real rediculous and thats what we should expect going to a theme park.Maybe they will not charge for the water park in the future like the safari.
first of great adventure is the biggest park in the world not magic mountain, they have also the most rides then any other park in the world, thats why admission is so high, i as well have a season pass, and its worth it. they dont include hurricane harbour b/c then it would be full in 5 mins then ppl will be complaning that both parks have huge lines im glad that it's seperate admission for both parks. less lines!!!

In the case of SFGADV the market area is one of the largest in the country. They have a lot to offer and people flock to the park in droves over the season. It has the highest attendance of any seasonal amusement park. SFMM doesn't count in this category because they are not seasonal.

Don't pay the extra 10 to go to the water park take the tram it runs every 5 minutes from the front gate. You are right it is a very long walk.

Zeus is correct. SFGAdv has the highest prices, because they can get people to pay the prices. It is the closest major theme park to NYC, and is also near Phila. If they can keep the park packed at the current price, why would they be about to lower it? Or, Think of it this way, if they charged less, the lines you have to wait in would be even longer.
The high prices sure haven't kept the crowds away. The New York - Philly area cost of living is quite high and much of the work force is compensated for it. And because it caters to a large market it can get away with high prices. Remember the New Jersey shore also brings huge numbers of vacationers with dollars to spend. Many of these vacationers have kids, and kids like amusement parks! What I do of course is buy a season pass. :-)
zeusagis...I don't have to worry about the parking yet, I can't drive until next season, but I will be sure to get a parking pass. That is way cheaper. The tram shows up about every 2 hours if it's on time...haha. One thing I just thought of is that Great Adventure is the only major attraction in the area of NYC and Philly. If you look at LA, you've got Six Flags, Cedar Fair, and Disney among others. There's no competition around GAdv, so they can charge as high as they want, there's no where else for people to go that's so close.

OMG You Just didn't! Ok, Here it goes....Cedar Point does have the most rides. It is in the Guiness Book of World Records. According to Six Flags America's Commercial, they have the most rides too. Havn't you ever thought that it was a lie, and they said it just to get you into the park? Don't mess with the facts. I think your the one who needs to learn his stats...

Cedar Point does the most rides, its a well known fact. I also don't appreciate being called dumb by a person who says that a roller coaster can not go upside down with just a lap bar, and can't use correct grammar. Back off, they do have the most rides...
