flying coaster layouts

i noticed that all flying coasters that have been built are based on the same layout. stealth is different just because there are corkscrews and not twists. is there ever gonna be a different layout or will parks just keep cloning the same one?

Is the X-Flight at Six Flags Ohio layed out the same?

Not all flying coasters are similar, just the Vekomas. Stealth was the first Vekoma, then Batwing and X-Flight were a slightly "improved" version. There are other flying coasters out there not by Vekoma that have different layouts: Birdmen, Skytrak (which came before Stealth, but was torn down a few years ago). Don't expect Vekoma to change the layout much. They hardly ever do custom coasters, just make cookie cutter rides.

that really sucks. i think thats stupid. they came up with a good idea, but just clone the ride.

I'm sure that Air (the B&M flyer) will have a different layout when it opens. I would also guess that B&M will produce several of these in the next few years stateside, and we will probably get to see several different designs.

No, the parks just clone the rides...it's cheaper that way.

You guys need to remember that the average Joe won't go to both SFA and SFWOA in his lifetime. By making these rides similiar, they can spend the research and development expenses on new ride technologies.

They absolutely should not have cloned X-Flight! That design doesn't even get you going fast enough to make it seem like you're flying. They should scrap X-Flight and start over!

I'm sorry people, but speed isn't about everything. I don't think I want to go 90mph with forces pulling my head away from the track. I already had neck pains from X-Flight at that speed. Any higher than that and I don't think that they'd keep it running b/c of head and neck injuries.

Air will be at Alton Towers to begin next year. It is currently known as SW5, keeping with Alton Towers of code naming their coasters before they are debuted. I'm not sure where you can find pics, but it is listed on the RCDB as under construction.

and i heard AIR will have no inversions? i duno..

but man of course when your flying you turn and go upside down and in circles muahaha

Vekoma said that if the park requests it, they can custom design. This is rare as their standard models are a real bargain. This is a very clever strategy as it brings in the customers & revenue.

In other words, think of Vekoma as the cloning company & B&M, Intamin, Arrow & others as custom companies.

Vekoma doesn't make clones,the parks just order them that way.(same layout)
As for hurting your neck on X-Flight how in the world did you do that,the G forces are centered around your lower chest and stomach.
I just rode it last monday.:)

But when flying, won't the G's pull you head down 'till your chin touches your chest?

No,you actually hang in your restraints.
The restraint is like a hard plastic-teflon type vest that you slide your arms through that snaps together,than you lower the lap bar which locks above it.
The lap bar if you want to call it that,is similar to the one found on FOF@PKI just bigger.

Batwing and x have more flying time, the last two corkscrews are in the flying position, and there is a flying helix at the end, i am pretty sure that is what is different about them from stealth. That is what i have seen from the pictures of X.
