SFOT New Dive Coaster Could Be World's First Giga Dive!

I'm just being intentionally inflammatory. I couldn't care less whether a coaster is classified one way or another.

Hobbes: "What's the point of attaching a number to everything you do?"
Calvin: "If your numbers go up, it means you're having more fun."

I'm not a huge fan of dive coasters. Ive been on Sheikra and Valravn. Valravn a totally meh one trick pony, Sheikra a little better with the water effects.

I'd rather have a conventional giga with a longer course and a focus on airtime hills.

But I must say a 300 foot dive machine does pique my interest a bit.

Griffen is one of my favorite coasters. Sit all the way on one side in the front row, and there will be absolutely nothing but air under your feet as you wait for the big drop. It's crazy!

And it's strange that Valravn is not one of my favorites. I can't tell anyone why.

Tormenta official POV!

I really dig the name, and the logo. Tormenta!

I'm sure it'll be an amazing ride, but for me (as I always say when a new Dive is announced) ... you can't beat a drop from half that height into a smoking pit. Oblivion is still my favourite.

Nothing to see here. Move along.

It's a Dragon Wagon then.

Also, +1 for Oblivion, the shortest and best Dive Machine of them all.

It sounds like the title you’d find on a VHS box in the horror movie section at Blockbuster. You know, the one with the scantily clad woman looking in fear over a shoulder that has bony fingers gripped on it? Shocking!

Seems to be a recent trend to just add a syllable or two at the end of a word when naming a coaster. Tormenta, Pantherian, Reptilian, Rapterra…

I guess the marketing team decided to extend the trend beyond just Kings Dominion this year.

Well, “tormenta” is a Spanish word meaning “storm,” which fits in the Spanish section of the park.

What’s weird is that they felt the need to make it somehow refer to a bull named Tormenta, when a wild storm is a perfectly good theme, as evidenced by the number of coasters named Hurricane, Cyclone (or Zyklon), Thunderbolt, Tornado, Twister, etc.

Also, “Derecho” would be an awesome name for an out-and-back. I should trademark that.

I thought it sounded like a Masters of the Universe character name.

The only dive I've ridden is Valravn. Since it got built I have over a dozen rides and I just can't get into it at all, it's just boring. Tried it again 3 times this year just to be sure, and I definitely prefer Orion's front seat first drop over that thing, what a waste of metal. Sorry to be a downer but I'm surprised how little I like it. Hoping this bigger one is more fun, also glad Kings Island isn't getting it.

So...Tormenta is 309ft. I am very intrigued by it, especially after realizing Valravn is a mere 5ft taller than its first loop. I am already planning a Texas visit in 2026.

Counting down the days until I'm back at Cedar Point, the one and only place to be.
