Your season wrap-up: park by park

Bob O I havent been to that mary parks this year. Six flags kentucky kingdom i thought was a very dirty park with the ride operators just going thru the motions with how slow they loaded the rides. I couldnt understand why you open a park at 10am but then dont start any coasters till 11am, very unimpressed with the park, the worst theme park ive been to. Six flags Great America is my home park and went their numerous times and thought the park was alot cleaner this year than in the past and that Raging Bull was again excellant but again couldnt understand how they could run out of anniversy shirts by late may/early june and not order more as they lost alot of sales IMHO. The park was very good except for the food which is medicore at best. Also went to Paramonts Kings Island at a ACE event and had a great time. Thought Son of Beast and The Beast were great as were their other wooden coasters. But not impressed with their steel coasters which i thought were weak and need to be improved. Very impressed with the park and would definitely return again.

Here we go (in chronological order):

IOA: Mind-blowing theming. Great rides. Attention to detail is astounding; some of the queues are more entertaining than other parks' rides. Already planning return trip.

Family Kingdom (Myrtle Beach): Nice little family park. Came here basically to ride the Swamp Fox, a John Miller-woodie with a cult following, but found the coaster somewhat disappointing.

Myrtle Beach Pavilion: Big attraction here is the Hurricane, an extremely intense CCI with (as noted above) those wicked helices. For me, the biggest (pleasant) surprise of the year - perhaps my favorite 2000 coaster.

SFOG: Let's see … beautiful trees and scenery, quite enjoyed the coasters we were able to get on (B:TR, Mindbender, Scorcher, Cyclone - great ride! - GASM, Viper), but … the park was sadly understaffed, trash swamped the queues, line-jumping was NON-STOP. Only time I've complained to a park's customer relations.

Visionland: An air of doom hung over this place on our visit - the place was deserted (on a Sunday), half the shops and stands were closed, etc. Which is a shame, as they have Rampage, a truly thrilling, brilliant coaster, perhaps the most intense I've been on, and the best CCI I've experienced.

BGW: Class. They do not know how to do things wrong. Although I'm not a big fan of Alpengeist, every other coaster delivers in spades. This is on our "every year" list.

PKD: Low expectations, exceeded. Enjoyed the coasters, especially Hurler and Grizzly. Would consider return trip.

Knoebel's: I LOVE this place. Words don't do justice. Perfect in every way. Atmosphere to burn. Best value around. Beautiful setting. Phoenix is the best woodie I've ever been on. Another "every year" park. Did I mention I love this place?

Kennywood: Always a pleasure - don't think I can say anything that hasn't been said. Paramount's Great America: The old King of Nor cal's reign is coming to a close. I'll love this park and it has been in my family scence it opened. They have a great selection of coaster but with the exception of Grizzly which is no good, EVERY SINGLE COASTER IS SHORT! It's unebelivible! Demon has to be one of the oldest Arrow's around that doesn't kill people. Greezed Lightning is amazing! Top Gun is amazing! Vortex, well desent.

SFMW: Went on a crowded day. Only got the oppertounity to ride Kong and Roar which are AWESOME!

SFMM: GREAT PARK! What PGA should be but isn't. You see, they have a lot of coasters but there all some of the best of their kind! Hopefully I will be able to get out there aroud Thanksgiving!

Disneyland: Love this place, Went day after fouth of July no lines! [for disney that is] Only 15 minute wait for Space Mountain and everything else was in that range except the Rocket Rods. Matterhorn and Thunder Mountain aren't as fun as they used to be but who cares! Indina Jones is still pound for pound THE BEST dark ride! Fastpass is great!

CEDAR POINT: Millenium Force is the gretaest ride ever! great admission price compared to Six Flags. Crowded on my visit, but worth the waits. Too bad Magnum's lift chain broke on the day I visited.

SFGAm: Raging Bull is still as good as ever. The Eagle still rocks! Batman is short and sweet. Less head trauma for me on Shockwave. New restraints on Iron Wolf? Why is that space shuttle collecting dust????

Cedar Point(2 visits) I love Cedar Point. The best park ever delivers once again with Millennium Force, The Number One Coaster on the Face of the Earth.

Six Flags Ohio(4 visits and one more Sat.) The new coasters were sweet, except Villain got very rough over the course of the year. Batman is my #4 coaster, true awesomeness as you fly over the Peter Tickler hill over the swamp. Getting rid of the industrialized feel would make this park better, I have not had nightmare stories like all of you.

HersheyPark(1 visit) My first visit to HersheyPark left a sweet taste in my mouth(not in my ear, Brittney was "singing" at HStadium ;) ). Though the LR were cool, I liked Wildcat more, my #2 woodie. That old time classic woody Comet amazed me as well.

Busch Gardens Williamsburg(1 visit) The park is almost closely up with Cedar Point, except I didnt care much for the coasters except for.....Apollo's Chariot! I rode all coasters once, Alpie twice(back and front walk-on, not too impressed), and my main man AP 10 times, including 2 front, 3 back, and almost all rows. AP cant smack my girlfriend Magnum, as she still sits a head of AP at #2.

Six Flags St. Louie(1 visit) The All-American Road Trip didnt fail as we hit Eureka's Pride for an entire day. Being first in the station of BOSS, First Ride in the back, the day wouldn't fail(except for B:TR, that's dumb). The Boss is the #1 wooden coaster I have ridden, I rode it 5 times that day. Also impresing was Midda Free which is NOT ROUGH! We rode him 3 times. Screechin Eagle was also a great classic ride including chaser lights at night. Prices a little steep, but a GREAT park.

King's Island(1 visit) Vortex and King Kobra were easily the runaway winners from this park. I don't believe that just because you cant see a coaster from anywhere in the park that makes it a good ride. Dang, let's just say that Legendary is a TRUE COASTER ENTHUSIAST!!!!!

Epcot: “Futuristic” areas are badly in need of a facelift. World Showcase is still great. Park needs a real thrill ride to accompany the somewhat lame Test Track.

Holiday World: I can’t tell you how impressed I was with this beautiful little park and its two coasters! Wish I lived closer so I could visit more often. The Pepsi Oasis is a breakthrough idea. Somebody else said it, but I’ll reiterate it: with their two coasters, HW proves that quantity of rides doesn’t count nearly as much as the quality of the rides.

PKI: I really wish I liked this park more! Despite two visits this year, haven’t yet ridden SOB. The coaster was never open while I was there. Didn’t add Face/Off to my track record due to the insanely long line.

Hersheypark: One of my favorite parks. Was bored by Lightening Racer, but it was the smoothest coaster ride I’ve ever had. Love the trains and the look of the coaster, though. Growing more fond of Great Bear every time I ride it. Availability of fresh chocolate is definitely a plus.

Knoebels: I was so impressed by this tiny park! I love that they’re actually concerned with park history and the preservation of things like carousels and band organs. Phoenix is now my favorite coaster hands down.

Lake Winnie: I have driven up and down I-75 my entire life and I never knew that Lake Winnie existed until this year. It’s a stealth park - little advertising means little out-of-town attendance. It’s a relaxing place with an enjoyable coaster that gives an unexpected pop on the leap up into the station. Pirate ship operator needs to learn when the riders have had enough. Has the world’s oldest boat flume, circa 1927.

Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom: I visited SFKK on a weekday in July and really enjoyed myself. There was no crowd, but I can easily see how the park would be frustrating when packed with visitors. Most coasters were 1–2 train wait. Could have ridden Thunder Run all day. Cedar Point: MF, smooth as snot on a door knob!! What a great park. That was my 20th trip in my life and will see 30 more!

Hersheypark: Outstanding, LR was great, Wild Mouse, very slick and the Great Bear was a good invert. But, the Wildcat was the best woody I have ridden in years. It's not as rough as people say it is.

Kennywood: My #2 park, tradition, history. It's just a little diamond that we found along the way. Sad to see SP go, I loved it. Hint: Exterminator is vastly underrated. Great Wild mouse coaster.

Plans for 2001: Hershey, Knoebles, Kennywood, Holiday World, SFStL, CP, SFO, PKI. With the financial situation I am in now, I think it is achievable!!

There's nothing like a woodie...

Woody: Looks good for 2001, but do yourself a favor, work some overtime and scrape up a few more bucks. Sandusky is (according to Mapquest) 297 miles away from Muskegon Mi. If you love woodies as much as your name suggests, you will not be disappointed with Shivering Timbers. Worth every second of extra driving time.

Gotta ride 'em all!

Dollywood: It was an ok park with rides that seemed like they were for really young kids. Tennessee Tornado was a pretty good coaster. Would be great with some better coasters.

Six Flags Over Georgia: Not much to say except it was dirty, pathetic staff, no flat rides, and short coasters. Scream Machine is my favorite ride there, tons of air time.

Six Flags Marine World: My favorite SF park. Really suprised me. The workers were nice, it was clean, and a ton of awesome flat rides. Medusa(12 front seat rides in 1 day) is my favorite looping coaster. No lines!

Paramount Great America: Good park. Top Gun is short but extremely intense. Vortex was pretty rough for a B&M. Stealth and Invetigo were great.

Six Flags Magic Mountain: Huge Park. A ton of good rides. Goliath was the most intense ride I've been on. Riddler's Revenge is great and should receive more credit.

Cedar Point: My all time favorite park. All there main coasters are world class and worth the wait. IMO Power Tower is the best flat ride there is.

Sea World Orlando: Best shows and exibits of any park. Kraken is good and so is Journey to Atlantis.

Epcot: I didn't really care for it. Not worth the price for admission. The only thing I liked there was Test Track.

MGM Studios: I didn't think Rockin Roller Coaster was as good as the hype. Tower of Terror was cool since it's a free fall and you get to actually move places other than up and down.

Magic Kingdom: Liked it when I was younger now I think all the rides there suck. Really made for a younger audience. I don't know if it's just me but there rides seem slower than Disneyland's.

Animal Kingdom: Favorite of Disney Parks. The safari ride was really fun. Bugs Life was neat and so was the Dinosaur ride. Dinosaur seemed a lot like Indiana Jones except it had dinosaurs.

Islands of Adventure: Great themeing in the islands. Spiderman live up to the hype.
