How did so many people see Millennium Force? I know I didnt see it (on TV) until Christmas Eve ('course I dont have cable ;)). But aside from the discovery/travel/tlc specials, what other programs was it on?

No one on the west coast has even heard of MF, most people here think Goliath is the tallest in the world. And some haven't even heard of Goliath. I takes a VERY special coaster to get world wide coverage. Not that any of this really matters, but sometimes when your close to a coaster or park, it takes on more of an impact for you than it really has for the rest of us.

With three satellite feeds running non-stop (and those were just the leased feeds the park rented) and a midway that looked like the Miami neighborhood of that Cuban boy, there were a lot of people out there at the other end. Obviously the largest hits came from CNN and FoxNews, but every major and minor market in the Midwest was there as well. The total number was calculated by some firm that figures these things out (probably the same people who figure out how many times logos are seen in an auto race on TV).

"One thing that was smart with, was they advertised a wide area. I never saw any advertising for SOB and I live in NE Indiana."

I never saw any MF advertising and I live in Ohio.
But I did see SOB (because I live 30 min away) about one month into the season. *** This post was edited by Sinker515 on 1/12/2001. ***
I dont doubt that someone actually said 100 million, but i cant believe that it was really that much. I mean, there are only about 280million people that live in the USA, only about 64 of those live in the midwest (taken from the recent census, excluding non-residents). I'm sure MF got coverage, but if I didnt check out these sites and if my mom wasnt on the CP mailing list, I doubt I would have heard of MF so early. It is a puzzlement 8)

Here's food for thought: I know when Steel Dragon 2000 opened in Japan, KDKA-TV in Pittsburgh ended their evening news coverage with a little spot about it (I didn't catch anything about MF, but during the SD2K thing, MF POV was shown [as "#2"])...

Therefore I wouldn't be surprised if Japanese TV stations also mentioned MF. That surely ups that 280 million number, doesn't it? ;)

I don't think people are going to like this ride. I have a feeling it is going to be an uncomfortable ride due to the unpredictable forces that will be exerted upon the riders. I would be surprised if the popularity of this ride maintained yet I hope it is great. It is a true innovation in the coaster world.

All time Top 5: (1) Milleniun Force (2) Alpengeist (3) Hulk (4) Ice Dragon (5) Raptor
Sinker515, that's surprising...
I hope I didn't mislead you...

I saw a Millennium Force commercial a few times (on Pittsburgh stations). What I meant by "not catching anything about MF" was concerning news coverage.

I don't think much of the GP hated SOB. Actually a lot of our friends and relatives love it. Many like it even more than The Beast. I love SOB too. The only thing I found wrong with it is no airtime. I would rather lose the loop than not have airtime, but SOB is still a fun ride. It has everything you would want from a woodie...but airtime. I hope there isn't even one more looping woodie in the world made, because isn't airtime what we like best from them? Good for PKI for trying something new though. Even if expectations weren't met.
