Xcelerator top hat tops off

Knott's Berry Farm has topped out their new 205-foot tall coaster by completing its top hat. They also did work preparing and placing supports for the second over-banked turn as they race towards their May 2002 opening.

Honestly by the time you and I rode MForce my initial concerns were long gone. Actually my biggest concern on that coaster was rolling backwards on the lift! Still is!

MForce's final braking was different for me the first time(s) I rode because there was such a gap between the brakes and the next train. (I rode back when it first opened... it was only running two trains.)

The difference to me is basically space. I get concerned over brakes and safety systems when I know a train or the station looms just ahead or behind those brakes. To this day, and probably forever, I get the biggest concern on the Superman ROS final brake runs. This concern I faced waaaay prior to the SFNE incident. For some reason it just bothers me to stop that abruptly and that closely to the station/other train.

Hypersonic bothered me because I envisioned rolling backwards and getting tossed out of the train on the tight little turn out of the station! Ha Ha! that is just the way my head works. I prepare for the worst on things I am unsure of.

I agree, and never thought about it before. While B&M has ridiculously redundant break runs, Intamin does not. They're damn sure they'll stop the train before the station (and obviously proved it doesn't always happen).

The thing about Hypersonic you describe... I had the same thought very briefly while stuck on Superman at SFA when the chain broke. Did I ever mention that happened to me?

Shaggy-- You bring up an excellent point on the S:ROS coasters that the train had better stop or else.

On one hand that is the magic of magnetic brakes on the other hand if there is a failure unrelated to the magnetic brakes then they have a huge problem.

Jeff-- You do have a point about B&M having plenty of brake runs before the station. Also, I did not know that you were on Superman at SFA when the chain broke. That must of been your 15 minutes of coaster fame.

Just a note... the pullout from the drop is now completely tracked. Some new supports have gone up and cement has been poured for the on-ride photo booth.

Ahk, nobody is probably reading this by now but I figured I'd just say:

Eric, I know its not the same as the top hats found on Chiller, or the Mr. Freezes, but the name has already stuck to the first element on this ride. Maybe it will cause some confusion but I really think that for people who are just learning about this ride, it shouldn't really be that hard to figure it out. People are going to call it what they want to, and it looks like we're calling it a top hat.

If the shoe fits, find another one.

If you think about it, this element qualifies as more of a "top hat" than the others mentioned.
i think of it as an Inverted-TopHat
