CoasterBuzz today announced the winners of the 2002 Coasters' Choice Awards at http://coasterschoice.coasterbuzz.com/.
“Six Flags Magic Mountain and Arrow Dynamics have clearly produced something special with X,” says Jeff Putz, chief editor of CoasterBuzz. “This new ‘4th Dimension’ ride has captured the imagination of a lot of people with its innovative trains and its massive structure.” X won the awards for Coaster of The Year as well as Best New Steel Coaster.
Knott’s Berry Farm’s GhostRider captured the Best Wood Coaster award away from the classic Beast at Paramount’s Kings Island, while Cedar Point out ranked itself with Millennium Force taking the title of Best Steel Coaster from Magnum across the park.
Busch Gardens Williamsburg claimed the title of Best Food after narrowly losing to Universal’s Islands of Adventure last year. The Islands and Cedar Point retained their awards for Best Theme and Best Capacity, respectively.
The biggest surprise came in the Park of the Year category, where Cedar Point again claimed the throne without building any significant new attractions.
“What can I say, there’s no logic to the obsession people have with Cedar Point. People love it as an important part of their lives,” says Putz.
Twisted Rails ran away with the Coaster Site of the Year Award, after its coverage of X construction last year. The site updated frequently with clear, high-resolution photos from the construction site. It continues to document construction at Knott’s Berry Farm, where the Xcelerator is being built.
The nominees were chosen by thousands of nominations made from the CoasterBuzz databases in February and March. These databases include over 1000 coasters and 350 amusement parks. The five nominees in each category with the most nominations were chosen for the final award vote. Coaster Site of The Year nominees were chosen by the CoasterBuzz editors and moderators, based on the quality of content and the ability to stand out on the crowded Web. 26,570 votes were cast across the ten categories.

I congratulate Twisted Rails with site of the year award. Their X coverage was top notch!
Edit: Jeff, on the Nominees' page, you mis-spelled Twister Rails. Must've been thinking of a certain new Impulse at the time...

Awww, No cool multimedia presentation like last year. I liked the voiceover...
Nice too see people appreciate Phantom's Revenge by giving it 2nd place for COTY.

Glad to see that Twisted Rails won. The coverage of X construction was awesome.
A look to the future: most anticipated award race for next years poll: X vs. Millinneum Force for Best Steel Coaster.
And Twisetd Rails certainly deserves one too. Great work guys.

Don't.....look.....back! The Headless Horseman awaits you in 2002!

What's happening to my Timbers?????? :(
Glad that Phantom's Revenge performed well, it is very amazing, despite what you may think (it is too short, etc.).

Nope, no cool voice over and such this year. The reason is that I simply don't have time, and I'm working hard to get the rewrite of the forums done, so I can in turn give GTTP a makeover, which it very desperately needs after many moons of neglect.
Oh, that and I've got that day job and all now.

I'm glad X got the award. It would be wrong for a coaster with such an excellent and new concept to walk away without it. Good job Arrow.
Twisted Rails certainly deserved that award and was my personal favorite, but WestCoaster.net and ACN certainly deserved it too. I say we declare a 3 way tie.:)

I do wish we would have a Park of the Year and then a Best Park Overall to distinguish who did their best that year in additions and running the park and then who did the best for where the park is now. I don't know if the results would be any different that way, but it seems to go along with the double awards for 'new' coaster and 'best' overall coaster even if the park really isn't new. I think the Best Overall would have been something like it is now for Park of the Year and then Park of the Year would be like DCA, PKI, SFGAm, SFMM,... or Dorney, SFoG, SFGAdv, etc. Just giving an example of course. I think it would be good to acknowledge the park that's "on the right track".
Why was CP winning such a surprise anyway? They won last year! Beats me why people love the park. I guess because they get to go on other days besides Saturday. I'll have to try that this year if we get a chance, especially since Snoopy on Ice is opening. I didn't get a chance to ride Blue Streak last year either, so I'm looking forward to that as well.
A couple things odd were that Collosus won Best New Wood, but wasn't nominated for Best New Overall and Hypersonic got second in Best New Steel and wasn't nominated for Overall.
Ghostrider really is one of the best woodies... but I wish we could have seen how it stacked up against Legend and SOB... just for fun compared to the "New" coaster results being so different. The wood category is really hard to pick from anyways.
There seemed to be 'unlimited' voting as well, so I don't know if the results turned out completely correct anyway in all categories. I think you should have had to log into your screen name and that way it would only vote once like in the nominations. But its just a simple poll, so nothing really to worry about. *** This post was edited by Koaster King on 4/16/2002. ***
i think that pretty much every category had a fair outcome. Although i would have preferred westcoaster.net for coaster site because they also had frequent x updates, along with disneyland and knotts. Now they are the premier site for all xcelerator info. But i can see that twisted rails truly was a labor of love and deserved it anyhow.
I don't think it is a surprise CP won again. This is coasterbuzz.com after all. I am glad X won and BGW won for best food. They have great food except for the fries. I don't know why they can't get that right. I am also glad MF won instead of Magnum. Thats all folks.
Barry Short- That's my opinion or I could be wrong
Magnum is and always will be the king of steel coasters, period. I'm pretty disappointed to see it lose out to Millennium Force. Granted Force is an incredible ride that in my mind can comfertably sit at second place, but nothing beats the Magnum baby, c'mon.
May 5th is coming, get ready.....
My top 3:
1) Millenium Force
2) GhostRider
3) X
Apparently, the general populous agrees. These three rides stand in a class of thier own and were very deserving of their respective wins.
Twisted Rails kept me glued to the internet for 5 months. Each day I would jump online to check its progress. Thank you so much, Karl! Congrats!

I've traded in my 2000 Giovanola for a 2002 Arrow X4D :)
My other car is now an Arrow X4D!
To me, it was suprising that CP won *AGAIN.* I expected everyone to be weary about that and choose other parks so CP wouldn't win. But Cedar Point is indeed one of the best, because so many people like that park so much!
And booh yah! GhostRider RULES!!!
[Edit] Ooh, forgot one thing, congratulations to Twisted Rails! Indeed all three: WC.NET, ACN, and TR did very well on covering the stuff for us coaster addicts. I personally prefer WestCoaster.net just because of their overall content--excellent! But congratulations to Twisted Rails, nonetheless, you still have a great site! *** This post was edited by The Jet Coaster on 4/17/2002. ***
