X broken down?!?

Coasterman Mike --

I am glad you can have such a great attitude when a *major groundbreaking, must ride* coaster is down when you visit, and you can just "shrug it off" and say you'll hit it next time.

However, when I spend my hard earned money to visit a park that is 2,000mi away from home, you better damn well believe that I want that coaster up and running when I'm there!

Thankfully, so far, I haven't come across anything MAJORLY disappointing in my riding career that has made me miss an attraction I waited for so long to ride. One example though was SFMM's STE back in Dec of 1998. It was closed for six months, and I was pretty upset I didn't get to ride it.

And about the ride being there for a very long time...Drachen Fire mean anything to you? I've already missed out on my chance to ride that one. :(

Ok, let's start off with why X was closed. It was because the pnuematic airgates in the station that go up when the train gets in there were slamming down and ruined themselves. They had to be replaced and if they keep forcing themselves down they will have to again and again.

Moving along now to what TankRust said about there only being 3 blocks. That is totally wrong. There are 6 blocks on X. They are, Bottom of the lift, Top of the of lift. First part of Final Break Run. Second part of final break run outside of unload station, then unload station and load station. Thus the number is 6 blocks.

DWeaver, X will NEVER be able to run 3 trains. That is a very unknown fact throughout many. However, the PLC only allows for 1 or 2 train settings and it only has a 2 operation maximum on the PLC. This was pointed out by many at X's media day including people who I was with who were talking to Allen Shelkey, designer of X and owner of Arrow. One of the main reasons that X will never run 3 trains is because of the accident that happened on testing with 3 trains when the PLC is only set in 2 train mode. The third train came barreling into the final break run and the brakes only triggered somewhat because it sensored to move the train into the block outside unload which it will always do on 2 train operation. So, there was already a train in that block and the drive wheels kept it going about 25 MPH or so and it colided with the other train. That is one of the reasons that the thrid train hasn't been on even the TT forever. The new parts for the 3 train that were damaged in the accident can be seen in different spots throughout the park, including the new I beams over next to B side of Colossus. However, MM knows that the ride will never run 3 trains so they have actually started to use some of the 3rd train parts on the 1st and 2nd trains such as the brand new seat backs.

Hope I helped clear up some false info and helped you learn something new today about my personal favorite coaster!

P.S. The longest I have seen X's wait is about 4 hours however, I have not ridden it on a GP day. I have only been on it during all the Season Passholder days and Media Day.

X = 52 rides and counting for me!

Okay, if you knew ANYTHING about PLC's You would know that in less than 10 mins you can program a 3rd train opperation. HENCE the point of PLC's, all B&M's use PLC's and they can run in 3 train mode eh?

Why does nobody believe me. For all the non believers come to SFMM and wait in line across the bridge with a 1 train operation. Then we'll see who's lauphing now. Sorry for being so mean but I hate it when people don't believe me.

Will X be open this weekend? I was thinking about going up there Sunday.......

Clarifications:

-the gates have to be kicked for them to get up (sad but true)

-the PLC is programmed for 1 or 2 trains, and will never be programmed for 3 trains (reasons already posted in this thread)

-retractable floors with the trains always upright is not an option. For safety reasons, a rider has to be able to be moved from the unload station to the load station.

-parts for the 3rd train are not being used on the other 2 trains. The 3rd train is being assembled backstage and will be put on ASAP. And when it gets put on, another train will go down for rehab.

Thats all folks. And for those who will question me, what do I know I'm just an op at the park? =)

ACTUALLY it was NEVER metonied why it couldn't be programed for 3 train mode, it was posted that the ride was ran in 2 train mode with three trains, big diffrence . Also I never said it would be programed for 3 train mode, I said it could. Thank you, come again and never correct Steve-O-Mac on PLC's!

Well, to PxPxPunk, why exactly will 3 trains never run? I didn't quite get that from this thread.
