I am not programmed to respond in that area.

I guess I missed this... the project just got FAA approval a month ago, not sure if it has been approved by the OC zoning people.

^ Is that seperate to this - not sure I understand your planning system!

"Skyplex will be reviewed by Planning and Zoning officials Aug. 20. If approved there, the complex will go before county commissioners for final approval."

Nothing to see here. Move along.

It depends on the state/county/municipality... there is no one uniform system. Usually there's a board that does the heavy lifting on zoning, then once they sign off on it they send it to the elected governing body that they're a part of to approve. This property is apparently in unincorporated (meaning not part of a city or town) Orange County, so the legislative body that gets final say is the county commissioners. The FAA is a federal agency concerned with air space.

Saw an article today about an Atlantic City, NJ Poler-coaster.

It claimed that since the height of their ride was under 500', there was no FAA sign-off needed.

Of course, it also said the Orlando ride was further along in the process and would be 700' tall, so...

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

The height limit depends on proximity to an airport, I believe. 500' may be fine if you're 20 miles away but restricted if you're 10.

For what it's worth, Intamin appears to be joining the party at Skyplex....

Haven't decided if that's good news or bad news. On the one hand, I'm not a fan of S&S's restraints. On the otherhand, it's Intamin. Ok. Yeah, it's bad news. ;-)
