From the Wired feature:
MagicBands, tech-studded wristbands available to every visitor to the Magic Kingdom, feature a long-range radio that can transmit more than 40 feet in every direction. The hostess, on her modified iPhone, received a signal when the family was just a few paces away. Tanner family inbound! The kitchen also queued up: Two French onion soups, two roast beef sandwiches! When they sat down, a radio receiver in the table picked up the signals from their MagicBands and triangulated their location using another receiver in the ceiling. The server—as in waitperson, not computer array—knew what they ordered before they even approached the restaurant and knew where they were sitting.

Gonch- suffer through my recent trip reports if you can.
Our tickets were parkhopper multi LL+ blah blah blah and for three days our individual rate was five hundred fifty six bucks. That gave us access to each LL attraction, but one time only- any other trips on that ride would be standby. LL can only be booked one at a time *unless* two hours goes by then you can make another to stack on top. With me so far? No? Hold on. Two rides at DLR are Single Use LL only and cost even more. Radiator Springs was 22 and Rise was over 30.
I tried to pay attention but anytime there was a discussion anywhere, here or elsewhere, I would glaze over.
Same.
It's really not that hard. I don't love it but it's not that hard.
Magic Bands are great if you're going to be in that ecosystem for a week, especially if they're now working on their cruise ships. I am always impressed by the tech every time I stay on property. That said I am now just using my phone/watch which does the same thing and is just as impressive to me.
They’re right. It wasn’t that hard.
It was a real relief to find that I could actually do it.
A pro tip for those in either state, staying at a Disney resort- use your hotel concierge. They can explain anything to anyone, ours helped me relax about LL, and they are trained to perform Magic. Ours was happy to find us a spot at the “sold out” Dessert Party, so there ya go.
