I didn't attend, but let's hope Solace is a far more encouraging event than last year. Let's be nice ops this year, what do you say guys??? ;)

Sir Mix a Lot? Nah!
Thats good news as I was going to go this year but heard they weren't doing it. I heard there was some tension between the ops and attendees at last years con. I also just checked the calener and at it is going to be on saturday march first. For those who have gone in the past, does the radisson give special rates and how crowded was it last year as this will be my first time at solace.

I was at Solace last year and there honestly wasn't that much griping between enthusiasts and Ops (that I saw anyways). There was a lot of boisterousness and cries of "Hey Heather, staple me!", but the presence of various Knotts managers on the GR platform during all three ERT sessions made it pretty obvious complaining about the lap bar positioning would not get you anywhere. I was stapled BAD once (not by Heather), so much so that the ride hurt me. Other than that I was able to keep my bar at a reasonable level without hassle. I think many of us were mindful of the then-recent Perilous Plunge death and were understanding about the new attitude on the Farm.
Coaster Con was a whole different bag of bad, something I'm glad I missed. It will be interesting to see what happens at Solace next year. I would love to see things with Knotts return to where they were just two years ago, when the park was more easygoing and the relationship between enthusiasts and the park was blissful. I'm still willing to give Knott's a chance, and I'm glad the event is returning.
Voldemort: The Radisson had an outstanding package last year: 2 nights (Fri. and Sat.), a gala reception with great food Friday night, desert inside the park after the reception, and 2 hours of almost walk-on ERT on GR following that. The hotel is also very nice and of course nothing else beats it for proximity to the main gate. And the bar there is pretty groovy as well, for post-ERT anaesthesia!

There were protests and booing at ops last coastercon.
That's world class. Makes you really proud to be an enthusiast.

Jeff, honestly....I will *usually* be the LAST person to defend enthusiasts' actions. It's STILL hard for me to believe what went down there, and as much as I really would *prefer* to take Knott's side on the whole Con fiasco, I just can't do it. The ACE crowd may not have been *in the right*, but I can say with ABSOLUTE certainty that KBF management had a LOT to learn about the differences between different groups that RENT out their park....and I DO hope they learned. I know and respect several "older" SoCal enthusiasts who swore off the park because of what went down. It really was THAT bad...
Back to a more pleasant note: I had read *somewhere* that the main person at KBF who worked on Solace had left, and THAT was a main reason Solace might not be held. Good to see the event will continue....
I think the CPG needs to get a block of rooms at the Radisson. Nasai, Bass, Gator...you in?

...can't.....resist....straight....line.....
'you in?' Is that something heard during M:TR? ;)
and I now retreat into the darkness to hide from 'the Goons'
What exactly did they do that was so terrible? I mean honestly, I'd like to know. Nine times out of ten, enthusiasts get what they deserve, so if this is that one time, I'd like to know what it is.

Jeff, I'd like to go into it all here, but feel it is inappropriate to do so....I'll try and put it down in an e-mail later on. Seriously, I thought I'd wait a few weeks before posting about the Con....I was *that* upset. SFMM, IMO, did *what they could* to try and make up for X. (Could they have done more....sure). But the attitude at SFMM was, for lack of a better word, apologetic. The attitude at Knott's was....well....not. I was *embarrassed* for the park and its employees, (and the enthusiasses, too). But I *expect* more from the park....'nuff said for here....
Edit: We'll see about March....are all the "smaller parks" open then...Scandia, Upland, etc. I'd have to do some SERIOUS horse-trading....and I don't even OWN a horse...;)
