I absolutely loved Shockwave @ PKD, and even willingly re-rode it twice, and would have ridden more except the friends I was with didn't like the ride, and only waited the first time so I could get the credit (and the re-rides were while they were going on Hurler again, which I didn't care for). I can understand how someone with larger dimensions than myself would be painful, though. The restraints aren't very roomy.
As for Viper @ GAdv, when the ride first opened I remember waiting in line several hours with my family to ride it. And it was (emphasize was) an enjoyable ride. I especially liked the zero-G through the red rings. Especially as young as I was, the visual effects were pretty neat at the time. As is the case with most SF coasters of the era, however, poor maintenance and upkeep reduced it to a pain-machine loved only by the most dedicated of fans (and perhaps chiropractors ;) ). By 2003, it had gotten to the point where I had to buy overpriced advil at a gift shop after I rode with a friend (his first on the ride). I consider it one of the worst steel coasters in it's later years, but I can't help but wonder if it wouldn't have deteriorated with proper maintenance (a la Shockwave @ PKD)
(Note: unrelated to togos, I had similar pain thresholds on GASM, and noticed it much much improved in 2005, and part of me can't help but wonder if Viper could have been restored to similar smoothness with a little TLC if it wasn't removed for El Toro?)
