Windjammer Surf Racers

I was wondering if anybody knew why the Jammer Racers were taken out of KBF. Was there a design flaw or something? I know TOGO was the manufacturer, and their coasters aren't always reliable. I just wondered what caused this unique concept in a coaster (steel racers) to be removed. Thanks!

Take care and God bless!

A little search will turn up a list of things which resulted in it going "bye-bye". A crappy ride which rolls back in 5mph winds that you have to spend millions on......I'd tear it down too. That's just the start!

(comic book guy voice..) "Worst ride ever!"

well, the ride sucked. they recieved many complaints about the ride's roughness. but, would you rather have that, or Xcelerator? its kind of a no brainer....
I personally liked it, even though I only got on it one time. Although I had to wait about an hour since one of the trains was stuck on the lift, at the bottom of it, so they had to shut it down. I just stood next to the ride-op person at the coaster's entrance and waited, then was the first one back on, and enjoyed my ride.

Can't say anything about bumpiness though, maybe I just know how to ride the right way.

So I guess this begs the question: is the steel racer a viable coaster option for the future, or have we seen the last of them? Thoughts?

Take care and God bless!

Yes, Steel racers/duelers are no more, hahahaha!

Wait, isn't there that one little one by those looney swiss guys down in Florida?

you know, ive heard about them too! arent they like Dragon Duelers or something..lol there was actually going to be a clone of Dueling Dragons at a Universal Park in Germany but the whole park was scrapped..

You could make a solid argument that Disneyland's Matterhorn is a dueling/racing coaster, too.

DUH! I forgot about DD! Pretty stupid of me since it's in my top 10 fave coasters.

However, I was thinking more along the lines of above track coasters. What do you think of having racing steel coasters like they have wooden ones. Kinda' like Gemini, only more modern.

Imaging something along the lines of racing MF or S:ROS, or racing Nitro or AC type coasters. I think that'd be pretty cool, but it's probably cost prohibitive.

Anyway, just a thought.

Take care and God bless!

DD *does* duel, although not really all that much....the only "racing" section of DD though...is on the lift...;)
Isn't there a racing Togo stand up at one of the japanese parks?
http://www.rcdb.com/installationdetail970.htm A dueling Intamin steel "above the track" coaster in Germany. I don't know if I'd say it's modern, but it's newer than the Matterhorn.

Warning: I do not think like the average person. My remarks have plenty of thought behind them. Take it for what it's worth, if you disagree, please, feel free to express it, but don't put me down because of it.

It was a horrid coaster, it disappointed the park in so many ways, from the stalling from low speed winds, to the MASSIVE headbanging problem. It wasn't that impressive, and was pretty slow.

Basically went up the lift hill, made a turn, a drop into a loop, up another hill, made a turn (the yellow track's turn dipped under the red track, and ended up on the other side) a set of brakes, a drop into the most horrendous turn that changed elevation, and killed your head, up another incline into a slow turn into another set of brakes. You made another turn down a gently sloped drop, up another incline made another turn, and finished off with a helix with a weird object in the center. It wasted so much space, and was spread out (they could fit two flat rides comfortably under it) it was a waste of money, and stood dormant for almost a year, because Knott's wanted TOGO to come take it out free of charge, and TOGO wouldn't, so knott's sewed them for a faulty producy. It took forever before it was taken down (viciously I might add, which everone was happy about)

However, it did hold the awesome Carnival of Canivorous Clowns, (yes not only could they fit two flat rides under it, they could fit, a 1/4 mile maze for Haunt under it, at the same time). CCC rocked that year, and was really long, and when we went, no one was there, so we had a great time)

So to sum it up it was awful in every way possible, it failed in comparison to what it replaced (the beloved Wacky Soap Box Racers), the only good thing was it held the best version of one of my favorite Haunt mazes. Oh we also got Xcelerator as a end result which is a major plus.

Welcome one and all, y'all come have a ball!
Things a bear-y fine, ridin' on the old Knott's bear-y line!

rollergator saidDD *does* duel, although not really all that much....the only "racing" section of DD though...is on the lift...

Dueling Dragons doesn't race on the lift...the ride counters the speed of the lift so that they are exactly even for the dueling points at the camelback footchopper and for the loop duel.

I also think a duel hypertwister like Raging Bull would be sweet! that is a great ride, my personal favorite.

Turbo....obviously there is no *racing feature* on the lift....I was trying to point out (apparently unsuccessfully) that the lift is the only point where the tracks run PARALLEL to each other....;). The dueling section at the vertical loops works VERY well in the front seat, and I never really *get* the dueling at the 'locking 'screws.....

bill, got to SEE the 'Jammers in SBNO condition, never got to RIDE them though...:(

Sounds like you were lucky rollergator! :)

Unfortunately, I got to experience both sides of Neck Jammer. Oh what a terrible ride, and to think that they removed Soapbox Racers to make room for that terrible excuse for a ride.

I thnik the dueling corks can only be experienced at all in the front on the "close" side (I forgot which one it is). It does seem to me that the type of duel would only work in an above the track style coaster.

that was a good ride for the first year then it got stuck! after the first time it kept doing it (first on the yellow track as i remember) then the red and if it was windy you wouldent want to ride it or you felt like you were dieing but with no win it was great!! unforchanetly i was stuck on one of the lifts in 2000 (late jan erly feb around their) and i still liked the ride if it was upgraded and wasnt down so much
