Will horse collars become a thing of the past on s

Premiere and King's island proved that you do not need the dreaded horse collars on multi looping sit sown coasters. Do you think that they are unnecessary on sit down looper? If so, Do you think there will be a major reform in the industry?

I hope B&M makes more sit-down loopers using the speed coaster trains.

I wish King's Island was in charge of SFMM. They could get rid of the painfull HC on Revolution and Flashback, and possibly viper.

i think horsecollars just need to be more padded, i wouldnt really trust a multilooper in just a lapbar.

I am thinking they may become a thing of the past on looping coasters that aren't too extreme. At least I am hoping. :)

I hope they dont because in FOF, if you are tall (or have big feet) then you dont fit comfortably. At least with OTSR, you can stretch your feet out a little.

OTSRs aren't really a problem on B&Ms because the track is very smooth and head banging is kept to a minimum.

Umm...I'm not 100% sure, but I think California has a law that requires OTSRs on ALL coasters going upside down. Can anyone back me up on this?

I think on certain coasters they are needed, like for example inverted or stand up. But it should depend on the coaster design too.

An insane amount of padding didn't help FOF. At one point I assumed that multi-loopers couldn't have just lap bars. Now with many operating without OTSRs I have sure changed my mind. What really got me was when the looper in Europe got stuck upside down with just lap bars and there was MUCH fewer injuries/problems than when the Demon got stuck upside-down with OTSRs!

Whenever someone says something is done "because it's the law" your reaction ought to be to ask the person to quote 'chapter and verse.' Remember, until just recently the State of California had NO laws applying to the safety of amusement park rides. This has been the subject of much debate in the past couple of years; I've been following the process with some interest even though I'm a couple of thousand miles away.

Shoulder bars were a bad idea to start with. Now a third manufacturer and two major parks are demonstrating how rides can safely run without them, and I personally hope the rest of the industry takes notice.

PKI MAN, bear in mind that there are many ways to skin this cat. Kings Island has two methods with their two Premier-built trains, but there are other ways to accomplish the same end. B&M's Speedcoaster train, for instance, appears to be a design ideally suited to looping coasters. Likewise the Intamin train design used on Millennium Force (heck, that one DOES handle three inversions.....). Schwarzkopf pretty near had it right with the Looping Speedracer and Doppel Looping, and now PTC (!) has a looping coaster train out with lap bars (and really cushy seats). There are lots of ways to go about designing the car and securing the riders.

I hope parks start getting rid of them, it may just take a long time. What really bugs me though is whena coaster that operates on lapbars is converted into a OTSR coaster! Why do they do this? Why did they do it on Revolution at SFMM?
