Why Six Flags will now fail.

Of course Six Flags could fail now. Cedar Fair could fail now. Who's to say?

People taking notice is nice, but the question is will enough of them pay the tab to get in?
About this competition. If I were Cedar Fair, I would be extremely pissed off right now, and ready for a fight.

Think....Six Flags just ripped away your record for most coasters with one park, they're building a coaster next year, one that people here have never seen, AND now they just bought 220 more acres to add to the park...setting themselves up for the big time, with major TV and news coverage.

If I were Cedar Fair...I would not be sitting on my hands doing nothing right now, I think we can expect Cedar Point to retaliate, and in a big way.

Practically seems like Six Flags is giving CP the finger while CP sits there with their mouths agape, and we all know Cedar Fair doesn't like to be left behind.

You might recall that Dick Kinzel said in our IAAPA coverage that they don't build rides to satisfy their egos. They are "good business decisions," as he put it. Build something that will attract crowds, calculate how much they'll have to spend, set up a budget and try to meet it to pay off your new ride.

We don't all know that Cedar Fair "doesn't like to be left behind," because outside the realm of obsessed coaster enthusiasts, they simply aren't behind anything. Remember, when The Force opened, most locals seemed to think that Magnum was still the world's tallest coaster.

"And Northeast Ohio has a lot of places! A new employee at work from Florida is astounded at the number of things to do in this area. Within four blocks of where I sit, one can go to the Rock Hall, Science Center, theaters with touring Broadway shows, baseball, football, basketball, etc... and that's just downtown Cleveland"

This is a bit off topic but...

Places such as the Erieview Galleria are losing merchants left and right. They claim there is not enough "local and tourist traffic" to stay in business.

I think the problem with Erieview Galleria is Tower City. They can't compete with a larger mall which is in the center of Cleveland. I bet most of the people who visit Cleveland have not even heard of the Galleria. It's a shame too, such nice architecture.

I smell an indoor amusement park!!. While PKS is at it, they should buy that too.
Competition brings out the best in parks. Look at my situation in Las Vegas. I own four casino properties, which vary from economy to deluxe accommodations. That is absolutely nothing in today's Las Vegas building boom where corporations like MGM/Mirage, Mandalay Enterprises, and even Steve Wynn are all trying to one-up each other with a bigger and better casino. My casinos are older properties located downtown. That is why the city built the Fremont Street Experience. We needed something to attract the crowds that were being pulled away from downtown and to the glitzy new Strip hotels. It also forced the older casinos to offer "looser" slots and table games with player-friendly rules such as single-deck blackjack and crapless craps.
My point here is Las Vegas has become a mega destination with a variety of diverse entertainment. Cedar Point and Six Flags Ohio both offer different experiences and will most likely continue to amaze us all with new and exciting innovations. If Six Flags can upgrade their guest relations and keep things from getting too coaster crazy in Aurora, we may have a truly special place to look forward to. And Cedar Point, as Jeff mentioned, will also continue to reap the benefits. The two parks competing like this should be good for all of us. As I mentioned, I just hope SF's "grand vision" isn't a disaster.

That's a bunch of "crap," Jackie! ;) Just kidding... I'm sure you've heard that a thousand times but it seemed funny to me at the time!

Off topic still... I work across the street from the Galleria. The problem is the stores. Most of them are filled with crap that normal people of average income can't afford. Consider then who your traffic is... People of average income having lunch there. They have the traffic, but like many of the Jacobs properties are after the wrong people. South Park Mall in Strongsville is the same way.

And I'm still wondering when the hell Elitch Gardens is going to get anything large and new! Maybe SF should have added one new coaster in every property this year instead of giving some parks multiple installations and others none. That would be a sure way to keep the parks afloat, make every market "new" and attract the crowds all over the nation. Just my thinking...
with all of the new coasters they are bringing, thier income will just grow and grow. I don't think sf will ever fail, bacause people know it so well. They have turned into the greatest of the theme park companies, so they must have some clue about how to keep buisness and make money.

I really dont think that Six Flags is going to bring in more attendance by adding multiple coasters. Most poeople would go if they were only adding one. The other one is just an added bonus. I agree with Staticman00 on adding one to each park, instead of cramming three into one ala Magic Mountain.

I hate to say it but, this topic is very low grading. "Why Six Flags will now Fail" you do not even have to ask why, because they are not going to fail anytime soon. If you are buying more property you aren't very likely to fail. Now, if they were selling property then I might agree with you, but until then this topic is a dead end. If you are going to talk about failing maybe we should talk about Disney. Disney is the one that is laying off a bunch of workers. That looks like a sign of failure if you lay off workers, but no one here will say Disney is coming to an end. Six Flags has been around 40 years and I see no sign of the company folding up, if you see ANY signs of failure I would sure like to know what they are!

Maybe it is because I am not familiar with your posts, but I dont see your logic behind that one. Why are you so glad that Cedar Point is not "on top anymore." Do you work for the competition or something. I think as a "coaster enthusiast" you should be glad that parks like Cedar Point build so many huge rides for us to enjoy. =)

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to back up CP here, just failed to see your logic, that's all.

I don't know why but I have always favored Six Flags rather than Cedar Fair.

Obviously, Six Flags will not fail and Disney definitely won't either as they are currently the reigning champ in the theme/amusement park world as well as the film world. And no other company comes close on either side. I don't see a company earning billions each year coming to an end. Not soon. Not ever. I will say that Warner Bros. has been etremely disappointing in their film department though. MANY high budget films with BAD grosses. Doesn't look good if they keep that up.
