48,000,000$? Sorry... but that was 25 millions for MF, not 48! Steel Dragon 2000 was said to be 51 millions (converted from yens to US$) when it opened in 2000.
My bad, I heard on Discovery Channel it was 48 million. I looked on the website, and the $25 million is correct. I've been lied to for the past 5 years. I'm going after the Discovery Channel for this.
I'm not surprised we haven't seen more MF's because of their size and price, but I am surprised that we haven't seen many rides like S:ROS at SFNE and Goliath at Walibi World.
I guess that Intamin came out with the Rocket so fast after MF, and around 2000 parks were getting hyper coasters so it just has worked out this way. That's what makes MF so special. It's a hellava lot more fun and rerideable than TTD.
Intamin clearly makes the most orginal and inovative designs, but they can't prove to anybody that they can be reliable. Their Hyper/Giga's, Impulse's, and Rockets all are crowd favorites when they're working properly. Just look at any top ten list.
If only B&M would ever venture out into making a reliable launching system and take a few risk here and there. Launching coasters seem to be a hit.
