Why is everyone going crazy for Cornball express?

I don't understand? CCI labels it as a Family coaster? It is only about 70 ft high. Just because some of the nest woodies like Pheonix, Viper at SFGAM are small but great doesn't mean this one will. Just becuase its the only woodie in 2001 and its a CCI doesn't mean it will be awesome! I know Indiana Beach hasn't got anything for a while, but why?
First off, Conrball Express is not alone because there are two other new woodies coming in 2001. Cheata to Wild Adventures which I believe is CCI, and Collosos in Heide Park in Germany. Second, you won't know till you ride it, but for now, the layout looks awesome for a junior woodie.

It has what I like to call an inverted wooden coaster track section with supports turned upside down. Hard to explain. It needed this to go over an area(boat dock/marina area?) they didn't want to disturb with supports. Looks cool anyway.

Its a fun, peppy layout the whole family can enjoy! A coaster doesnt need to be 370' to be fun
LOL, thanks for that intro PT300 ;)

Well, to start off...not everyone is going crazy for Cornball Express. Smaller parks attractions usually don't get much attention, which I have tried and tried this year to do. I'm sure it will keep losing attention know that Cheetah has been announced.

CCI does not make bad coasters. Whether big or small, they are all good. Lets say Cornball Express is built in a big open area with nothing around it. Of course, this is going to be boring. Cornball from the moment it drops out of the station is inside Hoosier Hurricane's structure, then it climbs the lift hill crossing Hoosier Hurricane's (like Twisted Sisters), then it has a drop down into the park's log flume splash pool (maybe at times you will get a splash?), the next climb is in-between a pavilion and trees, after that you have a drop and then climb over a shelter. Next you have that dip and climb element that you don't see to often, then you have a drop over Lake Shafer, now you climb into Hoosier Hurricane's supports and then drop below the station breaks, going into a large helix, and then do two more bunny hops by the pavilion.

So you see, where this coaster is built and what's around it is what makes it what it will be. Of course I can't tell you what it's like just yet...but I can see it will be amazing whether anyone thinks so or not.

Also, Hoosier Hurricane was built in 1994. From there, I think the next major ride was the Big Flush in 1997. The next thing was the S&S Tower: Double Shot in 1999. Now in 2001, we have Cornball Express. So you can see, it seems in the past 5 years Indiana Beach has gotten into the game.

7 years since Hoosier Hurricane - I'm pretty sure anyone would be syked for any type of coaster (if Indiana Beach was your home park).

ya i think its a very unique layout for a family coaster. cheetah's only 20 feet taller and people arent putting it down for that.

are you ready to go vertical?...V2 SFMW 2001 ...
Well I also think the hype is due to the fact that cornball was the only woodie in the usa officially announced before thursday. And there are a lot of woodie fans out there. And I do agree that its construction was a little unique, a staple to CCI and its wonderful coasters. (just by looks I have not had the pleasure yet)

But On to cheetah. I contributed the news to the site that CCI's website now has the rendering and pic of what cheetah will look like when it is done. I do believe that some of the hype will be sent towards cheetah now that constructon should begin soon. This Coaster looks better than i initially thought it would be and could be a very big surprise of the year.

I am going to like the idea of taking my daughter to a decent size park where she (at 49 inches tall) can ride all 4 coasters in the park. Cornball Express (even though the name is kind of cheesy) looks like a winner in my book.

"CCI labels it as a Family coaster?"

Not exactly. The stats for a family CCI coaster are way below Cornball's statistics. A CCI family coaster calls for a 55 ft. structure (Cornball Express has a 75), a length of 1990 ft. (Cornball has 2100 ft. of track), and a speed of 39 mph. (Cornball goes 45 mph.).

Cornball has the statistics to be a family thriller except it's 600 ft. short of track. It meets all the other stats though.

I would count on CCI to make a great ride that does not need huge heights!
I just thought I would resurrect this topic as I am one of the people going crazy over Cornball Express. I just rode it Thursday and was blown away how CCI was able to pull this one off.

First of all, how did they shoehorn that ride into such a tight space? The ride has so many near misses with other rides, like the Tig'rr coaster and the log flume. On one ride, I felt a little mist as the train went down the first drop and a boat went down the flume drop at the same time...yes, theyre that close! And the supports are amazingly engineered too so that they don't interfere with other rides. One section of track that lies over water is actually supported ABOVE the track. Another section uses supports from the Hoosier Hurricane.

Second of all, how did they create such a wild ride out of a 55 foot lift and 70 foot drop? Seriously, this is probably the wildest coaster I've ever ridden. I know CCI calls it a family coaster, but I know I would never be able to drag my parents on it! I can count at least 2 occurences when I thought I would be pitched out of the train. Every hill pulls some type of amazing airtime or lateral force, either in the front or back. And I'm talking HUGE air here. I'd like to say that the old fashioned buzz bars are the reason the ride is like this, but I know that even with modern lap bars, the ride would still pull amazingly strong forces. The bunny hops are awesome and that final turn in the front seat just throws you everywhere!

I think this tiny little ride, this Rocky Balboa of a coaster, would have top 10 potential if only more people would ride it. I think it blows the Villain to shame, since other than Shivering Timbers, which is obviously better, I have no other CCI's to compare it to. Seriously, if you live anywhere near Indiana Beach or travel anywhere near it, Cornball Express is more than worth a detour.

T-Wolf, Cheetah opened on June 16, 2001. So, there is really no need to post that news about the rendering ;). Besides, I think it was already posted on the site a few months ago.

Despite the Gerstlauer trains, I have heard that Cheetah is a pretty fun ride.

The ride is not very tall, but it is wilder than the Hurricane. I was suprized by it as well.

And, if you will notice, that post was 5 months ago, as this topic was just revived by MooreOn. Anyway, back on topic, I think Cornball Express sounds and looks awesome, and if I get a chance to go to SFGAm this year, I will definitly try my hardest to make a side trip to Indiana Beach.

I agree!!! I too think that Cornball is just a bit better than Villain (although Villain is quite larger, I was disappointed in it's ending!) Cornball's turn into the brakes reminds me of Raptor's turn into the brakes (which we all know is pretty intense!) If more people flock to Indiana Beach this year and next, I would think that it is possible to reach top ten (considering Villain made it this year and I and others like Cornball better). I suppose we'll see.

And for the Cornball vs. Hurricane, I think of Hurricane as a speed coaster, it never really slows down and it has a pretty long ride. Cornball is a surprise coaster. Every portion of the ride offers something different! My 4th or 5th time riding it (Media Night), I got soaked on the first drop because of the log rides perfect timing! It was so awesome, I had to keep riding it over and over! So...rate this little baby up there on the charts and let's hope for the best next year :)

CCI coasters are great ! Big or small - that's why. Look at The Outlaw @ Adventureland. It's one of the smallest wooden coasters I've ridden and it was still great. It's all about CCI (keep up the good work !)

This coaster rocks! My friend and I went down to IB yesterday, and had a blast. This was my third trip this summer, and in all honesty, the ride keeps getting better. I really can't put my finger on what it is, but I like it more and more every time I ride.

It was also interesting to see that people have finally caught on to the fact that this is the better of the two woodies at IB. On previous trips, both rides had equal waiting times. Last night, the Hurricane was a walk on
virtually the whole time, while CE had waits of 10-30 minutes while we were there.

I finally got out there this past Saturday and I must say it is one of the more peppy little coasters I have ever been on. To start off with the first drops dives into the splashdown pool of the log flume and if you are lucky you just might get wet on this coaster. Next it abounds with airtime on just about every hill. The headchopper effects on the dive down to the lake and up into the Hoosier Hurricane are extremely insane. It actually made a believer out of me....I really thought my hands were gonna get chopped off if I kept my hands up in the air. The helix has such great laterals on it...the laterals are not overpowering but are enjoyable. The last 2 bunny hops back to the station really kick you out of your seat. And one other thing that really makes this ride a winner for me was how they built it over so many existing rides. It is also really neat to look up from the midways in the kiddie area and see the coaster zoom by overhead. This little coaster actually packs more punch than its bigger brother, Hoosier Hurricane. It is an all around fun and smooth ride that just might leave you breathless. I know it did me. I cant wait until I get another chance to ride it again.
