Why I'm glad I'm here(coasterbuzz), and not there....

I've only spoken with Robb and Elissa once, and don't frequent WestCoaster, so I am wondering... is that Robb's normal alias? i.e., is it *really* Robb who posted that? I could see some people who frequent RRC forging headers and posting something like that.

As far as restraints go, safety is paramount. If a guest is unable to properly use safety devices (restraints), the ride crew should deny that guest a ride. And I will agree with Robb just a little bit here - I think this situation could be great motivation for someone to confront the harsh reality they they have a weight problem, and hopefully encourage him or her to start down the road to a healthier lifestyle. That could be a good thing for someone in denial.

That said, I think there may be a design flaw in the Intamin restraints... haven't heard of any of these restraint issues with other major coaster manufacturers (Arrow, B&M, Giovanola, Morgan, etc.).

The posts follow Robb's MO by posting a smart little remark between his first and last name and changing it every time he posts. I won't say how I feel about him, I don't think I can keep it clean.

I'm really not interesting in joining in any Robb bash-fest, as the guy loves the attention. I do find hilarious irony in the fact the that guy has been up and down the scale himself, not to mention his passion for "young girls". Now that he's on the other side of the glass, he's throwing stones.

As for Westcoaster, that's a typical thread over there. Sad....

Of course I'd be accused of not having a sense of humor, but that's BS. They're humor is aimed at 13 year olds, and they can have it.

I saw his post and just ignored it. It was insensitive and cold, but now "we" are going to have this posting war that is just going to piss off more people. Rumors about Robb's past are going to get brought up for the 7982 time.

Back to the subject... I am very grateful to have a place to contribute where I don't have to worry about the other "crap" that others communities have.

One last thing... Robb said what he said. And he is an admin on WC, but don't make this a WC issue. WC isn't always full of that insensitive crap.

With respect, there should be no justification nor defense of words and actions that are hurtful toward people who are fat or perceived to be fat. Regardless of the involvement of Robb or anyone else, that sort of behavior and attitude is ignorant and disgusting, and framed within a discussion about someone who died while trying to have fun, is tragic.

We are assured every opportunity to be remorseless assholes in all facets of life -- but because we're allowed something does not mean we should indulge in it.

Fat people already deal with de facto discrimination all over the place -- from inappropriate staring to limited choices and availability of large-size clothing to errant, incorrect assumptions about their physical fitness. Why add to the pile?

Products are engineered and tested for safety based on standard dimensions that are derived from averages. A majority of the people in this country are considered "obese" -- another rant altogether -- and, as such, have an impact on those averages. If these rides cannot restrain those riders safely, a redesign is in order -- not a further restriction on who can ride.

The notion of further restriction is borne exclusively from societally approved ideals of beauty -- something that currently leaves no room for anyone that isn't on the cover of Maxim or GQ.

Y'all can pretend that there aren't larger issues at work here, but really, the behavior that is taking place over at Westcoaster right now -- and all over the country every moment of the day -- is the true problem. It's not about Robb or anyone else.

I don't know which is worse - the fact that Alvey consistantly has poor taste (as apparent in his postings and other aspects of his life), or the fact that people actually care.

If you don't like what he says, ignore it. It's called karma, and if he has it coming, it will come. Don't fuel the fire.

Well said MagnumForce, especially the last sentence. I took a lot of sh*t last year when I criticized the SRM rider who died. I still feel that if you violate the rules, you are asking for trouble. I don't see how people like Robb give enthusiasts a bad name. How many stories were on the news last year about enthusiasts who felt the SRM rider made a huge mistake? I can't remember any. How many stories were about the rider failing to follow safety standards? I can recall several. My point? People who violate rules cause news stories, not people who criticize them and want people to follow the rules so people don't die. If you can't ride because you are too big, small, tall, whatever, don't even attempt to. There are reasons for the rules.
