why do manufactures have small vechile seat?

I think, and some companies already do this, that there should be a few larger seats on all rides but people should control their wieght just to be healthy anyway.(fatsos!)
More new rides do not have shoulder harnesses so I do not think that will be a big problem in the future.
If coaster companies start making their seats larger, than whats going to keep people from gaining even more weight, and just making the problem worse than what it was before. Amusement rides are a small part of most people's lives, but when someone goes to a park and has to hear "I'm sorry sir/madame, but your proportions won't allow you to ride this ride," I think that could be a wake-up call for those who are overweight. Obviously, a roller coaster isn't going to make most people exercise and change there diets, but it may work on a select few. If designers make the seats bigger, those few people will still have "no" reason to drop some pounds.

Like I said before, I really feel sorry for people who are larger by nature, and who are limited to what they can do, but as of now, they make up a small part of the population. Will something need to be done in the future? Yes. But the major problem now isn't coasters, its people.

For the person who mentioned S&S being friendly to larger people, have you ever seen a large person try to fit in the Hypersonic XLC's cars? I did, and even with a friend helping to push down on the restraint, he didn't fit. They couldn't get the seatbelt to latch on the side.

I've seen a few people mention the need to lose weight and I fit into that category. September 2001 I visited Dorney just to get my season pass for 2002, and I had a little time to kill so I strolled over to Talon for a final ride of the year. After only about a five minute wait, I took my favorite seat on the left side of the front row. Even with the attendant pushing, the restraint wouldn't close. I was relocated to the middle of the train to one of the super sized seats. Even then I thought it was just a bad day and not the norm. I had problems in the past with Volocano to the point where the belt extentions barely fit.

Around April of 2002, I came to the conclusion that my height wasn't the problem (just a hair under 6'), but rather my weight (280ish). By my first trip to Dorney in mid-May, I was able to fit in Talon in the regular seats snug, but comfortably. I knew the real test would be Volcano, which came in August. PKD was the first stop on a 4 park tour that was going to be hilighted by my first ride on Wicked Twister. If Volcano didn't happen, we were just going to turn around and go home. Needless to say, I had room to spare, and the trip went ahead as planned.

I can say that I weigh less now than when I graduated high school. Another 20 pounds and I 'll be at a happy 185.

I will be working out at the Gym today again because @ 5'-8" and 175 lbs I want to lose some of that flab. I may be thin compared to some people but I've gained 30+ lbs in the last 15 years. But I think I've lost 8-10 from a high of 184 about a month ago just after the holidays!

Because Intamin makes the best modern restraints in the world that of one of the reasons I want a Heide Park's Colossos type airtime machine in the USA. I hope Titans Thrills will give me one to ride in 2006 when their new park would open! I can than hold my hands up and not worried about getting stapled by a falling lapbar. And this holding the bar up with your legs does not give you the free feeling that a buzz bar does. But Intamin the only one in the world to make QUALITY ratcheting lap still can give you that feeling if the operator allows you to have at least an inch or two. PTC ratcheting lapbars drastically went downhill in 1998 and beyond since the stopped making the strong return springs. I widh they make a system like Intamin than I'd be VERY happy with them! :-)

No offense angnjc, but if you're 5'5" and are over 200lbs your chest size should be the least of your problems. I've got friends that play varsity sports that range from about 5'9"-6'1", all of them being under 200lbs, and they aren't thin either. We all go to amusement parks together, (none are enthusiasts) have a great time, and every one of us can ride every ride except the ones where you have to be under a certain height limit. If you're to big to ride a coaster, it's not genetics, it's your diet and lack of activity.

I just heard this on a show on the Discovery Channel concerning obesity:
