Just a quick note for all you banshee hunters out there: Supposedly they often take the form of a white owl, so if you ever see a white owl anywhere, BEWARE! You may be about to die!

That is quite an odd name for a steel coaster, that name would be better for something like a Looping woodie.
Say Banshee to yourself quickly. done? Okay, now think about why they changed it from banshee.

Iron Wolf, who cares about the relationship betweem the color of a coaster and it's name. Is a
magnum red? Is a Raptor bright green? I rest my case.
I find it strange, Banshee is related to death, but Mantis... I mean, don't Preying Mantises kill thier mate (the male counterpart) after mateing? I mean, it tells you what it will do to the male after riding. ;)

I think Banshee sounds cool, as well as Mantis. But why would they name a big B&M after a bug? I mean come on, a kiddy coaster should be named after a bug. I havn't seen anyone mention this yet, but has anyone noticed that Mantis is painted in CPs colors? Also maybe we missed something, but while at CP last week my friend told me he had never heard of raptor reffering to a bird. I havn't either. So is a raptor a bird and is it a predator or what?

A raptor is a predetor bird. I belive that they are hawks, eagles, and falcons. Anyone know for sure?
I guess you could say the sequel to Raptor is Talon, as that is the foot of the bird.

I thought that BGW was geeting a woodie called Banshee in the Ireland section. Doesnt Banshee mean ghost in Irish.I don't know that just what i heard.
Everybody is saying that Banshee means wailing spirit of impending death and all but what about rides named Demon.

Everytime I try to add my explanation to this topic it is deleted - Why? I want to explain that Mantis' are not Red, Yellow and Blue and I can't believe some of you took that seriously! Because I am not getting the opportunity to explain by previous post, it is making me look stupid.
Quote From Jurassic Park:
Alan Grant: "...And even the word 'Raptor' means, 'Bird of Prey'"
Raptor is not a dinosaur, that is a velociraptor, so don't confuse the two.
Incidentally, 'Talon' is also an alien race from Gene Roddenbery's 'Earth: Final Conflict'
I name a bunch of my haunted RCT rides Banshee, but I have never named a ride Mantis.
Talon's are the claws on a birds foot. A raptor is any predator bird. ex. Hawks,Osprey, Falcons, Eagles NOT vultures, condors, ravens, crows. Those are scavengers. All raptors have talon's because that is what the use to grip things and catch rodents fish and snakes etc.
Cedar Fair recycled the Banshee logo into Steel Force at Dorney Park. They only adjusted it a little.

Talon=Awesome
I heard that it wasnt only religious groups, but i heard that it was also woman, just because banshee is an irish ghost that is supposed to be a woman that screams.

Don't believe what you've heard, just read from the link above and believe that, specifically the part about the definitions printed by a local newspaper. End of mystery.

I'm going to Cedar Point on July 11-15th, I just found this out, what's the new name change or is just the same?
I have worked at CP since before the opening of Mantis. The name Banshee would have fit perfectly if you could have heard the coaster scream through it's elements before the addition of the brake on the first hill. And yes it was changed due to flack from religious group.
The Banshee is also associated with water in many legends. The location of Mantis is perfect to fit this aspect of the legend. If you look closely at the Mantis station the next time you go to CP, you will notice an unfinished roof. The original station, in order to fit the Banshee story better, was supposed to be topped with a lighthouse beacon.
