Why did CP change Mantis' name?

I know it was originally to be called "Banshee", but why did Cedar Point change the name to "Mantis"?

Maybe Banshee is an ugly name fr a coaster.
Cedar Point fell under a lot of critisism from religious groups. The groups said that a banshee was sacreligious, because it is a devilish, wailing spirit that warns of impending death.

I think the story is on CB's sister site, Guide to the Point under Mantis' little page.

Surely those religious groups know that a banshee is a fighter jet.
I could have sworn Jeff had a whole news piece on this at www.guidetothepoint.com but I can't seem to find it...

Yes, Full Force, but if you've ever seen the Banshee logo you know they were referring to it as the spirit that warns of impending death.

They should have kept it as the name.
Perhaps they were warning of impending death of fertility for males who chose to ride it!
Another thing, Banshee and it's bright color scheme...they just don't seem to mix. Never-the-less, it's a great ride. *** This post was edited by Glitch01 on 6/9/2001. ***
Can we please lose the comments about the physical status of men on this ride? Riding the Mantis does nothing to a male. End of story.

Coasters- a little slice of heaven
As I recall the Banshee is prominent in Celtic lore. It's ear piercing wail was a precursor to someones demise. After some consideration and a whole lot of education from many people CP decided it was not an appropriate name for a roller coaster.
Yeah, go to www.guidetothepoint.com and look at the Mantis ride review. IT has the logo (I think) and a story why they changed the name. The definition of banshee is something like death is coming. Now I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to name my coaster "Death is Coming".

Graig: I think he ment that as a joke and not to be taken seriously.

I think the name death is coming would be a great name for a wood terain coaster with ghost theme. They had to change the name for some whiney dumb people that can't take things for fun and have to depict and disect every single thing that goes on.

And to think, we have rides with the word Demon in them.

Banshee sounds dumb what is a banshee.
Apparently you didn't read the thread, because the answer is in the above posts.

I still think Raptor's green would work better for a bug, and Mantis' scheme would work better for a bird. Go figure.

Have you never seen a Mantis, they are Yellow, Red and Blue, NOT Green. I took Advanced Biology at Colledge so I SHOULD KNOW.
When the park origanally announced the name they got a lot of feedback from religous groups and such. Thank god they did change the name, Banschee is just not a good name for a coaster.

Yes, but apparently not how to spell college...

...and the mantis on Space Ghost is in fact green. That's enough proof for me.

Could you describe the ruckus?
Thanks for the answers. I appreciate it. BTW, Banshee seems like a cooler name, to me at least.
