Who's Online.

This may be a silly suggestion, and it's more of a suggestion for POP Forums in general.

How about a "Who's Online" type deal, I see you already have "People on CB Right Now" which is pretty cool. But I think it would be even better if you could click on that number, and beable to see everyone that's online at that very moment. Maybe even a record online type deal aswell. Something like "There was a record of xxx people online at [this date].

May be a childish suggestion, but I think it would be pretty cool. Should be pretty easy for you to do too, Jeff, since you are a very gifted programmer.

Well as of right this moment there are 345 people on CB. Do you really think anyone really wants to know who is online at this very moment? And if so why would anyone on earth want to sift through that many people?

At the bottom of the Forums page you can see who is on line. It breaks it down between: Total People Online, Members Online, Anonymous Members Online and Guests Online. Under that it gives the names of users online.

I don't know what else Jeff could do for your to see who's online. You can't lists guests because they aren't registered. It would look like a million Guest 1, Guest 2 and so on.

Maybe I just don't understand your question, but thats my thought on it the way I see your question.

Oh, well look at that. It's just what I was talking about, didn't even know it was there. Thanks Sarah. I always wondered how many people were actually registered here.

I believe "activity" is defines as "logging on in the last 3 months".

Actually, since the last update, I don't have the active account tracing setup. I don't doubt that thousands of the current accounts are "dead" at this point.

I would also add that I cache the crap out of user data to keep performance tip-top, so that count is only updated once every ten minutes.

It's weird, but CB has been the same now for over a year. In that time there hasn't been any major downtime or crashes, aside from a planned upgrade that took an hour. The next upgrade won't come until later this year, when my ASP.NET book is written and I've rebuilt the forums for v2 of .NET. Lots of ideas though!

If more people joined the club I could just make it my full-time job and work on it constantly! :)

59 new people have joined the site in the past 5 days...scary how fast the numbers grow.

It is even more scary that you wrote that comment at 6:00 in the morning.

Of course, I never post past 4:00am or before 7:00. ;)
