As far as track records go I have trouble getting around to adding the coasters that I have ridden.

Along those lines though, I saw some protestors the other day with sings that said, "Who would Jesus bomb?"
Anyone remember that episode of duck tales with the cave of echoes and golden fleece?

Mamoosh said:Why? People bash a ride before it opens, too ;)
I think that ends all arguments right there.

But really, if someone wants to rate a coaster as their new #1 before they ride it, and then it turns out not to be, big deal. Chances are, they'll still have fun on it, and life will go on. Some people aren't afraid of anticipointment, as they realize that they themselves are responsible for it, can deal with it, and move on.

As for Blue Streak vs. Shivering Timbers, I think there are too many differences to even consider them similar at all. You are talking about John Allen vs. CCI designers, 1964 vs. 1998, old-3-bench PTC's Vs, new 2 bench PTC's, helix vs no helix, there are too many differences to prove your point. THE ONLY things they share are wooden and out-&-back layout. TTD & Xcelerator have the same designers, builders, track, trains (almost), launch system and are built within 2 years of each other.

Moosh, you are missing my point. CoastermanJ had said "people have NO idea what it's going to feel like..." . There ARE HUGE similaritaries in Xcelerators launch & top hat and TTD's launch & top hat. To say that people have NO idea (zip, zero zilch) what to expect from TTD is simply not accurate. People DO have an IDEA what to expect. Whether or not it lives up to or exceeds those expectations remains to be seen.
Yes, there are similarities between both coasters, however the ride variations (speed of launch, the twists on the descent, trains, etc.) will affect the ride in my opinion, henceforth no one will know how it's going to feel. Sure, I agree that the similarities are there, but wouldn't be safe to say that two completely different coasters (that aren't clones mind you) will produce two completely different sensations? I am of that mindset. TTD might be a lot more intense than Xcelerator, or it might not be. Who knows? No one. That was my point.

Ratings don't matter much anyway. They're far too subjective.

Then you simply change your rating. These things arent written in stone, and even if they *were* written in stone, stone can be broken. Seriously though, have you not ever had the case where you've ridden a coaster, thought it was great and highly favored, then went back and rode that *same* coaster and somehow, it didnt please you as much? This happened just recently with me and SFGAm's Viper, still good...but not *as* good.
More over, *why* do you have to ride a coaster to rank it? The term "enthusiast" could very well be applied to someone who *never* rides coasters. There could be something else about the ride that they like, perhaps the asthetics. I know Tremors is one coaster that I'm always fawning over, and I will probably never have occasion to ride it. So I think it is perfectly fine to rate a coaster even if you hadnt ridden it.
But, as Jim F said, my opinions are hardly the norm ;)

If coaster valleys or gets stuck on the lift on your first ride, do you get to add it to your track record?
Just to stir up a little more controversy...
